Forums - Sony - Blu-ray is doing FINE, haters need to give it up.

This is out of no where.

I don't think I have seen a Blu-ray hate thread on VGC in at least a month, maybe two. Perhapps the users here finally feel that they can't get away with bashing Blu-ray without looking like an idiot. After all, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Killzone 2 have built a wall of only possible thanks to Blu-ray, that is only going to get bigger. Uncharted 2, Infamous, R & C ACIT, Heavy Rain, and more are going to push the point even further, and if anyone thinks SE would have put the amount of content they are putting into FFXIII without the freedom of blu-ray, think again. There is no way SE would have set out to make a 6 DVD game had they been limited to 6.8GB a disc, they may have looked at 3 or 4 max, but no way they would do six.

Then looking at movie sales, and seeing that blu-ray has risen from around ~6%, to around ~12% of the market. It becomes pretty hard to say blu-ray is not going anywhere, without looking like a fool. I figure buy the end of this year with $99 players promised, and a price cut to PS3, we should see the percentage go closer to ~25%. If the majority moves to the model that most people I know have, people will rent the movies they only have slight interest in from their cable box, PS3, or 360. Only only movies of high interest will be bought, and they will all be on Blu-ray.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

The only thing stopping blu-ray is the fact that it isnt any different to the average consumer than a dvd.

The only reason vhs was discontinued because of the dvd was because of the physical look of it (thick rectangular medium vs thin small circular medium) and because of this blu-ray will never beat dvd but it still will be a respectable medium.

TRY READING THE ARTICLE, if you did, you'd realize that the exact opposite of your comment is reality.

I wasn't aware people were hating lately? Oh well. Go watch Kung Fu Panda in BD and it'll convert you.

@ FKNetwork

Blu Ray isn't doing very well at all in the UK (not sure about other places in the world),

I think 3.7 million movies sold last year (2008) for the UK is a pretty honorable result at this point, of this 1.5 million units were sold in December which represents a 400% year over year increase for December.

The UK is only lagging behind the US and Japan with regard to adoption, the US saw Blu-Ray sales for last year rise by 320%.

ome stores no longer sell bluray films here and some are heading that way too

Strange place you're living. Retailers around here tell me how happy they are with Blu-Ray, they now use it to show off the clarity of the HDTVs they are selling. In their opinion this makes a huge difference with customer perception (sometimes noting, it's like looking through a window!).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

To expand on the above, Japan is seeing good (mindboggling actually) Blu-Ray growth, Blu-ray Disc recorder sales increased by over 800% for 2008 vs 2007 in Japan.

RIP Bluray.....

You seen our new signatures mike? lol

And you really know how to talk rubbish, do you live in the UK? no, didn't think so.....

Go to any of the big stores like game, gamestation, tescos, argos, asda, hmv in the uk and you will see that the bluray sections aren't getting any bigger, most places are reducing the size and reducing their selection of players on sale, this was on the bbc news website and sky news site a few weeks ago (will find the links if you really want me to) and said bluray hasn't taken the market by storm as expected as most people prefer sticking with dvd at this time,

And most stores selling hd tv's in the UK show off the tv's using SKY HD not bluray, I have seen a couple of stores that had one tv setup playing bluray films on a sony tv in a corner of the shop, bluray was on bbc watchdog tv program a few months ago saying how much of a waste it is upgrading when its future looks uncertain and offers so little over dvd,

So yeah, you can think and say what you want Mike but I live in the UK, I have seen the news articles, I have seen most stores around here myself so know what the score is and I have seen/heard many tv/radio programs over here that are not impressed with bluray, all this puts people off buying bluray,

Bluray sales are nowhere near dvd sales and never will be, bluray will peak in the near future and will start declining as some predict, why do people want bluray when you can stick with dvd or go with Sky HD/Virgin Media which offers around 60 HD channels plus around 30 HD film channels which you can pause, rewind and record onto it's hard drive and watch whenever you want, Sky HD has millions and millions of customers in the UK (not including the millions of non-hd customers), Sky is the most popular tv platform in the UK and is why things like bluray aren't that popular here as there are other services that offer more for less,

FKNetwork is correct, Bluray isn't doing as well as expected in the UK. I hope Bluray does take off mind you.

Stop with the games only possible on Bluray bullshit guys, it's pathetic by the way.

it's kinda sad that HVD is most likely going to destroy blu-ray in the future though.
