Forums - Nintendo - EA Rips off Mario Kart to the EXTREME!

Actually Nintendo did not create this genre of game. Depending on your source there are a number of kart racing titles that preceded Super Mario Kart. Lesser known, and obviously less successful. With their own nuances. So while it is fair to criticize some developers for following the Mario Kart design too rigorously. It is not fair to say that Mario Kart was the originator of concept.

Technically the definition has become too brand associated. The thinking being it has to be very similar to Mario Kart to be a Kart racing game. Ironically this only leads to less compelling offerings. We as gamers need to see the definition far exceeds that narrow point of view.

Overall though I am not going to take issue with this game. This is a good genre that can support more then one game, and it needs to see competition. Given time I expect developers once they have more experience to take the genre in different directions. We just have to accept that as it is the case usually for developers to be very attached to the proven formula. Give it time, and do not bash the effort. The genre is stale it needs the competition. If for no other reason then to push Nintendo towards innovations of its own.

Mario did not create platformers either but set the standard to what they should be measured against.

Same with Mario Kart.

¿why my sims racing sucks?

1.- ¿Where is the online? after 1 year of mario kart wii release this detail almost should be required to be seriously considerated as a "must have"

2.- Characters: ¿why make so flat and simple the characters? looks like one kindergaten kid make the models, or where made in one day by somebody without imagination.

3.- The karts: so flat and simple as the characters, ¿EA really thinks WII owners buy anything somebody made?

4.- IA: characters doesn`t react acord to attacks as planed, is very idiotic their actions on race.

5.- Development time for these EA games are extremly shorts, meanwhile Nintendo tittles are result of two years as minimal development.

6.- EA persist on Cartoon graphics for their WII tittles, very bad mistake, they jus must apply for some new IP and leave regular game series to be as they are.

this.. not so much.

That's not particularly difficult, (at least not for Rareware) MK64 isn't that amazing.

The best Mario Kart rip off.

I've never even heard of it, and I already agree.  Goemon always delivers!  He can do no wrong!

Its a clone of Super Mario Kart (SNES).

Its also fantastic.

I agree 100% . It was a great game and really refreshing. It took some elements from MK, but yet delivered a totally new experience!

Why is this disgusting? I bet there will be some people who will enjoy this, even it is not targeted to you! Don't be such a snobcore.

I agree Krazy Racers was the only mario kart clone I've ever enjoyed, and sadly I still don't own a copy. I should go get one...

It's just that simple.

Well of course it's similar. It's a party kart-racer, they're all basically the same, always have been, since the original MK.
