I don't think praying matters

I won the Blitzball tournament, it's not very difficult I won the first try, and the only difference of loosing and winning is a couple people will either say "you lose, you suck" or "you won great job". And I've only met I think 2 or 3 people that mentioned anything about it.

The chocobo eater was surprisingly easy, I remember the first time I fought him I died pretty quick, but this time was very easy, just keep giving him Dark so he can't hit you, then haste everyone and you'll beat him in no time.

Later on there will be other situations similar to the praying one, but I don't think any of them matter.

It´s possible to win first match.It´s pretty hard, though. Besaid Aurochs sucks hard, hehe.

If you win, you get one Strenght Sphere and in one cut scene,where Wakka leaves Aurochs, one of them has a trophyinstead of a ball.

I never the chocobo eater hard at all,...but i guess is because i power leveled
