Forums - Sony - Shadow of the Colossus thoughts after finishing the game

first of all let me just warn everybody this is going to be SPOILER heavy so if you are planning to play the game you should probably stop reading now.

man what can I say the game is just amazing, an absolute masterpiece, why did I waited so much to play it I don't know. It is one of the few games in my life that was a complete surprise of how outstanding the game was. The last game that did this to me was the first God of War way back in 2005

The game became on of my favorite PS2 games just under 2 hours in. I am serious there are no words that can describe it or my feelings to it.

The music is amazing and was the first thing I notice about the game and it's my favorite aspect of the game I can listen to it even if I am not playing simply brilliant. If you appreciate game soundtracks like me, especially a very good one, you are in for an absolute joy with SotC

The Colossuses, my god I'm running out of words to describe , they are huge diverse and every single one is unique and has a different and Inventive way to take them down you got to try it to understand what I'm saying it is truly extraordinary

I just loved the game so much the story, open world, fights and atmosphere truly a rare gem to add to your collection. If you have a PS2 you owe it to yourself to at least experience  this game (you will save a baby panda if you buy this game :p)

although I would like for Team ICO to work and fix the camera in their future projects because the camera get to be an ass sometimes especially at the last Colossus. I would like to see a more sharp and responsive controls also although they are not as bad as the camera they  just need a little touch up

man I know it looks like complete rambling with no point but I just finished the game and decided just to type not giving it too much thought tbh. I probably left out a lot (and I mean A LOT) of things I loved about this amazing game but I will remember it later ;)

Finlay I leave you with a photo of one of the most fun Colossus and Boss I have ever played

i agree with you in every single thing you said.the ending was great and all the experiance unique!!!!!!!!!!the only minus points is the camera and the ps2 pad.
one of the best soundtracks ever that gives you a very rare feeling.man this is ART!!!!!!!!

The game was certainly "different".
I expected (much) more of a story, but after the 4th or 5th collosus i realised the game was more about the atmosphere than actual characters and plot, so i enjoyed it for what it was.
The graphics were ok, animations were generally good, the framerate was...bad, music was fantastic (Opened Way especially), the gameplay as limited as it was certainly had it's charm and fighting those big beasts was unique, genuinely tense and ultimatelly entertaining. Some were more inspired than others, but generally each was different in it's own way.
The ending was ok, i mean it had a message, it was somewhat meaningfull, though they could have done much more on the thematic front, but then they could have done much worse, so it was good.

8/10 in my book, somewhere in Top 20.

yeah I almost Agree with everything you said. The ending wasn't what I was expecting but it was really good and emotional

The framerate had it problems especially at the last Colossus but it didn't bother me much but I hope they have better programming team for the next project

I'm gonna try to find ICO now although every body seems to like SotC more but I want to see how both worlds connect

I hate the game.

Yes I own it.

I was playing with a crappy controller, so I kept accidentally releasing R1. The graphics (apart from the colossi) were pretty awful. The controls were a pain. The camera was a menace.

And it's one of my favourite games of all time

...........I'm glad I'm not a graphics whore.

The colossus that falls off the cliff when you wave the flaming torch was really cinematic for me. I jumped off the cliff and landed square on its back.

Yeah, the soundtrack was amazing.

But by far my favourite thing about the game was that no two colossi were the same. I mean, there's a colossus who swims underwater, a few who walk on land, one who flies high, one who flies low, one who is basically a tower, one who disappears under the sand every so often...it's the most varied game I've ever played. There may have been only 16 enemies (17 if you count the camera ) but each was unique.

Few things give you the satisfaction that plunging your blade into a colossus and seeing it destroyed.

And Wander may have hardly spoken, but you feel extremely attached to him, mostly because you are playing as him for pretty much the whole game. Walking, climbing, riding, even some cutscenes, you control Wander.

And the ending was fantastic. I want to play Ico now.
