For me, gaming heaven was the 16 bit generation.

The last gen was the best for me, but that will change when final fantasy and kingdom hearts come out

I doubt this is heaven coz a gaming crash looms in the horizon.

1.) Studios are closing left and right
2.) Established names are dying out
3.) Most new IPs aren't selling well enough to be justified
4.) Old generation titles' sequels are almost completely milked
5.) Almost all publishers are losing money.

Look at all of this and say... hey, what the hell is going on? I would actually call this era "the calm before the storm".

Sure, all this extra competition is great for the consumer. We get so many great games, but in the end, we will feel that crash when publishers and developers start to fade away in the crisis.

Dreamcast was gaming orgasm.

bugrimmar, you think a crash is indeed coming?...even though people say the Wii/DS stopped one from coming?

This Gen is awesome so far, but its still got a fair bit to go until it beats last Gen

This has been the first generation of consoles since the 16 bit ERA that has given me that same buzz. Gears, Unchartered, Bioshock, Rock Band and Zelda TP have defined the generation for me so far.

yes indeed.

nintendo will be around, that's for sure. but a lot of people who don't really go for nintendo's game style will probably stop buying games if there's no other console around. that includes the 50 something million right now who bought a 360 or a PS3 instead of a Wii.

Sony and Microsoft are both still not exactly profitable in their gaming divisions. The publishers and the developers for their consoles are dying. Even giant corporations like EA are losing huge sums of money. When these pubs and devs decide to call it quits or go bankrupt, Sony and Microsoft would have no choice but to pull out of gaming because they don't have what nintendo has.

unfortunately, as said, the 50 million something people who bought a 360 or a PS3 are a totally different type of gamer. nintendo will surely keep it's user base, but the rest of the gaming market will crash.

@bugrimmar

Interesting...you should consider a thread about your thoughts on this, it´d make a very interesting discussion.

nah to many clones this gen, not enough originality, i've enjoyed it, but it hasnt been that great
