Forums - Sony - UMD less Patapon 2 ... a dangerous trend ??

One of the major reasons I don't play my PSP much is because it's too big to carry around and I can basically only have one game in the system at a time b/c of UMD. Getting rid of UMD means I'll be able to get a smaller system that has a bunch of games installed in it. Ease of use is the number one reason I play iPhone games much more often than PSP ones.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

If next gen goes download only then the only console to NOT be download only will win. By miles upon miles.

not really as retailers could still sell games. They just would be on flash drives.

It would be more likely they sell cards with a code to download the game with, if anything.

Doesn't matter, majority of people including gamers like solid things, something they can hold, they can can lend to friends, they can wrap up as an actual present and not just slip into a birthday card.  etc etc.

Plus ISPs would be killing them with the bills.

I agree with the sentiment. But what about the digitalization of music?

People seem to be able to live without music in hand. Of course, those files are easy to move around.

Personally, I don't want to see a digital-only world. But we will be there in my lifetime -- and given my age that's a lot sooner than it would be for most of you.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Maybe as a slight bonus for not being able to sell/trade hard copies of games, game developers will lower the price from the normal 30/40 price tag to 20/30 for handhelds. They won't have to worry about as much piracy and game trading. Fair trade in my opinion

Well if we do go to a DD world then i'm becoming a full fledged pirate. There is no reason to buy something i can't physically touch.
Like i said earlier i have never bought a song off iTunes, but i have a large MP3 collection.

I would much rather own a physical copy of games for a home console, but gimme all the DD you can for my portable gaming devices

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
