Forums - Sales - Sony is doing great at Japan, but Europe and America sales are sad.

Sony started 2009 big in Japan. PS3 is doing great no doubt, compared to other years, and PSP is doing great as well. They have released games that intrest Japanese customers, almoast 1 game in every second week, but they have pretty much forgotten Europe and America. While Killzone 2, Res 5 and Street fighter 4 are only big titles that I have counted as big releases here, Japan has had many more.

While Xbox 360 can keep it standart sales above Ps3 with its price and multiplatform games, Wii is well, just Wii, but Ps3 needs something. Price is pretty much down even tho its not official price cut, since I bought last year my Ps3 with 479€, now its around 349€. Price might not be the answer.

Games? Well yeah, but last year it had Blu-ray format victory which helped sales in long run. I think that they need to do something like that to win more customers, other than gamers. Movie download is already in America (i think) but we at europe don't even have Psn cards. Ps3 could outsell Xbox 360 in Europe pretty easily, but I don't know what they can do in America..

PSP is about its limits, tho PSP has huge lineup coming in 2009 with Final fantasys,Kingdom hearts, Assassin's creed and others and they will boost sales, I think they can't keep PSP hardware up very long, since Resistance didn't do well at all even tho it had good critic welcome.Well if Sony can win casuals on their site with LBP and Hannah montana, it might just do it.

PSN is other question. Will people buy Ps3 because of PSN titles? I haven't met one, well 1 friend bought it because of Wipeout Hd.

People are overstating how well Sony are doing in Japan. Its had a number of HUGE games that have provided big boosts only to let it slip to around the 15-20k mark (still good) but more importantly the Wii is doing so bad. At this rate itll top a MAXIMUM of 10 million units. Still good though given how Nintendo has forced out hardcore gaming all around the world

Other then Killzone 2 the other two games are multiplatform and wouldn't have helped Sony move hardware. In the case of RE5, Microsoft had that bundle which I'm sure hurt Sony in moving hardware. You're right though Sony sales in Europe and America are dreadful.

Now Playing: Crysis 2

Last Finished: BulletStorm

Online IDs: PSN: computermaximus, XBL: computermaximus

American sales are especially bad. European sales arent too bad considering they go up with nearly every new release

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

The PS3 is selling on average about 2000 more consodes per week in Japan than it did last year...

BUT it sold less in 2008 than it did in 2007 in the first 4 months of the year in Japan... So it isnt doing so well really. It is doing OK, but console sales as a whole arent great in Japan.

PS3 in Japan

2007 to end of April 418,538
2008 to end of April 385,431
2009 to end of April 469,385 up about 10% on 2007

360 in Japan

2007 to end of April 94,869
2008 to end of April 59,623 !!!
2009 to end of April 171,012 up by almost 100% on 2007 and 189% on 2008

Wii in Japan

2007 to end of April 1,308,189
2008 to end of April 1,255,487
2009 to end of April 478,047 huge drop.

PS3 sales are on the rise in Japan. Wii is declining in Japan. Following the trend of previous generations Nintendo consoles start off well in Japan but fade away in later years.
