Update 2: Duke Nukem Forever publisher Take-Two confirmed to Shacknews that it was not funding Duke Nukem Forever.

"We can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title," said Take-Two VP of communications Alan Lewis in a prepared statement.

"In addition, Take-Two continues to retain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever," he added.

Update: Apogee Software and Deep Silver have issued a statement to Shacknews, confirming that the situation at 3D Realms has not affected the development of Frontline Games' upcoming handheld Duke Nukem Trilogy.

"Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms," a representative for the companies told us. "Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned."

If we are lucky someone else will pick up development

I'm still shocked its happening :/ I hope its a publicity stunt

They were really far in the game development too, the video footage from last year looked amazing, as well as the screenshots, i could have sworn we were really close to a release date annoucement, of this holiday...

guess I was wrong :(

What video and screenshots are you talking about?  The only video I can remember seeing is the Christmas one they made which wasn't anything special and some incredibly low res screenshots that show nothing.

Don't get me wrong, I love Duke Nukem, but there's a reason the game has been in development for 13 years.

Btw, doesn't 3d Realms also own Serious Sam?

this made me laugh.

It for the past and spirit of gaming, if not really for the future (were people really expecting to even see this game ever come out, let alone be any good).

I wonder if I can still find that old copy of Duke Nukem 2d when I get home. That game was fun.
