Atari, one of the world's most recognized video game publishers, today confirmed the worldwide launch plans for the highly anticipated Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

The title will launch on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, Wii and Nintendo DS in North America on June 16th 2009 and will be published by Atari Inc.

In an exclusive deal for Europe and the PAL regions, the PLAYSTATION 3 system and PlayStation 2 system versions will launch on June 19th 2009 published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. The launch coincides with the 25th anniversary of the original film's theatrical release and the launch of the Blu-Ray of the classic first movie, benefiting from a worldwide launch and licensing campaign by Sony Pictures Consumer Products.

"Ghostbusters: The Video Game is one of our most significant worldwide releases this summer. Through Atari's North America publishing business and alongside our partners at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, we have a strategically diversified approach to maximize a title of this magnitude on a global basis," said Jim Wilson, CEO, Atari, Inc.

He continued: "As excitement in the marketplace continues to accelerate around this title and the 25th anniversary of the movie's release, Ghostbusters' large and loyal fan base and gamers across North America can play Ghostbusters: The Video Game across all major platforms on June 16."

Times exclusive -- PAL regions only.
Basically, help out Phil Harrison with a bit of cash while hurting Microsoft in Europe.

And the best news is that it is only a few months delay.

Mike from Morgantown

And the best news for me is that I live in NTSC land.

Will this really hurt MS? Is Ghostbusters really going to sell systems?

This is such a bizarre move. I don't really see any motivation for Sony here, except for this conspiracy theory that they're trying to prop up Phil and Atari. That seems like a lousy reason to buy a timed exclusive.

$ony!

Sony Pictures owns the publishing right to the Ghostbusters franchise, so if they wanted, they could have this game completely canned on all other platforms based on that fact alone. There's no moneyhat here. And it's only exclusive in Europe

That's cool, I guess. I really don't care much, so long as I get to play the game around my birthday on June 17th. Good for Sony though, so long as the game is as amazing as I think it will. =)

funny how ppl were looking forward to ghostbusters the game and now it sucks all of a sudden.

I know, I saw the re-runs in the mid-90's when I was a child. It was awesome then, but really nothing to be continued into this generation. Those were the days when American cartoons were amazing, Nickolodeon was the second channel only to Cartoon Network. Now that Anime has taken over, watching cartoons is more about morals and nowhere near as fun.

Anime and morals? Everytime I see an anime on tv there is a dramatic scene and later on it will be revealed that "honor" caused that thing that hapened. Not many animes cater to americans. They're all japanese. Yes, I know that sounds silly.

Fun fact: There was also a men in black show, that you reminded me of

Lol exactly what I was wondering!

I still fail to see how this will benefit Sony or benefit PS3 fans.
