Forums - Microsoft - Microsofts price cut this year will be 25% in the U.S.A? ($150, $225, $300)

If they lowered the Arcade the with the other 2 it wouldn't change much from the buying habbits now. But, if they just lowered the other 2 more people would pick those up instead of the crappy Arcade.

I am 50/50 split between you being right and the price cuts being a bit bigger (something like $130/$200/$270).

But why would MS make a drastic price drop like that all of a sudden? All the X360 price drops so far have been small, both in Europe and NA, the X360 is selling well and no one (at least not you NJ5) believes in a heavy PS3 price drop.

I don't think it's very drastic. The 360 launched in late 2005 for $300/$400, halving the price after 4 years doesn't sound very extreme.

For comparison, if Sony dropped PS3's price to $300 at the same time, they would have halved the price after just 3 years (even less than that in Europe).

The key factor here will be the warranty costs. If they really have the RROD/E74 expenses under control then that kind of price cut could well be possible. I personally think that Microsoft wanted to implement last years price cut in 2007 to coincide with Halo 3, but the $1billion RROD charge prevented it.

@Squil

Waht are u getting excited about price cuts for? Especially pipe dreams ones.

If anything, M$'s next platform being their 3rd will be doomed. Look at history, 3 is a bad number with consoles! Anything can, and will happen in the future.

@ hanzo

nes-snes- N64.. i dont think the no.3 console for nintendo was doomed, infact N64 did a whole lot better than the GC

M$ price cuts will only be inresponse to anything SONY does.. if SONY doesnt cut prices M$ doesnt need to either.. the 8 million gap between the two isnt going anywhere for now, and personally m$ need to make some money on a rainy day too.. my best bet is a sept price cut

($199)ARC. $159-179
($299)PRO. $249-279
($399)ELITE$299-349

All depending on whether SONY gives the PS3 a $50 or $100 cut

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

Does it really need a pricecut? If Ps3 gets a pricecut I can understand but not before it.

why would MS cut the price this year ?
The sellthrough of their console is brilliant (according to vgc) and it's sales remained at a high level since the last pricedrop.

Mostly, hitting the psychologically attractive $200 price point on the Pro unit!

Haha, yeah I think they do seem to be obsessed with that price point! Hmm if the average price of the console falls by 33% then the overall sales would probably rise by more than 50% (Had they happened for last year) according to my rough no calculation economics. So accounting for some year on year demand decay due to market saturation and sales should be up by 25% Y.O.Y. at that price point at a rough guess.

Does selling 3.6M consoles in the U.S.A sound plausible as a 25% Y.O.Y. increase for the 10 weeks of Christmas up from 2.9M?

I don't see why MS should drop the price. That's throwing away money. In my opinion it's already too cheap. Imagine the increase of revenue if the console sold for 5 bucks more. Would it really make a difference in hardware sales as it is now? I doubt it, but it can't be really proven either way.

Currency exchange rates is also a major issue globally.

MS, like Sony, is a business. Fans can shout all they want about price cuts but MS sees the bigger picture.
