Forums - Gaming - IGN Shows Guitar Hero: Smash Hits Full Track List

Well I only have Guitar Hero 3 on the Wii, with one guitar. I'll definitely want to pick this up for the songs from GH1, GH2, and Rock the 80's, which I only played on friends' PS2s. I kind of have to for "More Than a Feeling," "Carry On My Wayward Son," "Killer Queen," and "Freebird." I used to play "Freebird" over and over on GH2 to piss off my friends at parties. I think I've played the song more times in GH2 than I have in real life.

It's a shame they took out the Spinal Tap and Flock of Seagulls though.

I don't have drums or a mic yet, but I will some day, for the Beatles. So this disc will be ready for my band instruments.

Oh and I forgot another important point.

For Xbox 360 owners, they don't have access to Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s. This will be their first time.

For PS3 owners that don't have backwards compatibility, they don't have access to Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s.

For Wii owners, they don't have access to Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s.

So unless we are only talking about PS2 owners here, every other console in question is missing out on at least two of the following Guitar Hero titles of the past. Is that reason enough now?

But were those Xbox 360,ps3, wii owners come from? The ps2.Most people migrated to those other consoles already knowing of  the existance of the guitar hero games and some already had the previous games.I can understand something like Guitar Hero Metallica since it focuses on songs we have never seen. But what features can this  provide the  costumers for them to spend their hard working money in?Some songs they have already played?Packeged together?

Also the member that posted is not only him but he represents a percentage of people that already own previous installments.

If you check the scores(on IGN) each Guitar Hero game has had a lower score than their predeccesor starting from GHIII 8.9 then GHIV 7.9. I am just saying that I don´t like the direction that franchise is going I feel it is going to  end up like Madden and soon there will be less innovation and it would just be the same game with new songs.I can´t really comment on Rockband since I have not been following the series. This is just my personal opinion and everyone if free to pick any game they want,I am not saying "Don´t buy music games!" or anything like that.

If you didn't know I will tell you flat out that I despise looking at review scores.  What I did do however was go back to GH3 and onwards to look at every review from IGN of a 360 GH game after GHIII (ie Aerosmith, GH: IV, and Metallica) and read them.

About Aerosmith they said: "Even if the formula is a bit stale by now, that doesn't make Guitar Hero: Aerosmith a bad game. In fact, if you're a huge fan of the band, of the Guitar Hero franchise, or haven't yet seen what all of the fuss is over the music rhythm phenomenon, this release will please and then some.".  When you get right down to it the game recieves a lower score for being too much like the older GH games that people loved.  And note I'm not objecting to that, games should grow and standards do change.

About World Tour there is no specific quote to give, but basically Roper has a problem with the fact that many of the band centric features of Rock Band are not implemented such as notifications for when someone in the band is floundering etc...  These are legitimate complaints and I'm not going to critique his score but the bottom line is that these are problems arising from their additions to the game not due to any feature stagnation.  A number of the problems he points out are in fact fixed in GH: Metallica and the fact that the game matches the 8.9 of your benchmark GH: III speaks volumes.

One of my pet peeves is to READ READ READ the review.  Aside from the fact that the scoring is 100% subjective you also have the issue that a 90/100 doesn't tell you WHY those 10 points are missing or WHY the game earned those 90 points it does have.  If you don't know the why, the context, you don't actually know what the scores mean..you just have a conveniant number that was subjectively assigned and will be subjectively interpreted.

Don't take this as me harping on you, I'm not trying to tell you what to think, but I do hope you consider the point I'm making about reading reviews and ignoring the scores.

The last thing I'll say, and this is directed more broadly to those with concerns like ctk not just ctk, is simply that any who liked GHIII will still enjoy every GH after GH: III...its the same core gameplay with new features added on.  If you get worn thin by the game then don't buy every installment and wait for the really good installments (ie GH2, GH3, Metallica, etc..) to get your fix.

I will wait for this fall next major installment,it is just a bit hard to see one´s favorite franchise go follow another direction.I was more interest in the guitar rather than the other instruments, that is why I never got a Rockband game since I read that the guitar parts are easier than in guitar hero. But I will try to have a more open minded.

I hate the fact that Activision keeps on milking the franchise they don´t really care about the quality only the money.I mean was it really necessary to make this game I am sure that the potential buyers for this game already own the games containing the songs of this one.Seriously now I used to be a huge Guitar Hero fan back when Harmonix was working on the series once they left it was not the same. From now on I will support Rockband.

Your missing the point of some of the newer products. Activion is re-releasing songs to sell to GH gamers who don't have them. There are new gamers to the series all the time. As some one like you who already have been gaming with GH since GH1 you have all the songs, but for someone like me I only got into the series since GH3 and I don't like most Mettalica songs. I do however like Songs from Rock the 80's.. So how am I as a Wii owner or 360(example not that I have one) suppose to play GH1 and 2? I can't. So why should I miss out on some of the better songs? should Activision exclude me because I don't want to have to buy a PS2 + 2 games and another new guitar controller that just works on PS2? that would be pretty crummy and short sighted.

As for DLC, I call on that BS again. As the comments form an upstream gamer most gamers do not connect their machines to the internet. Not even 360 can boast more than 50% of gamers connected. So how are these distant non internet gamers supposed to play? once again the comments of making them just DLC exclusive is shortsighted self oriented comments.

So remaking the good songs on disc is a good idea. Releasing band packs is a good idea, i'm never going to buy Metalic, nor does Activision expect me to. Metalic GH fans will buy Metalic much like Beatles RB player will buy the Beetles set.

Both companies are moving the series by branching out to expand the audience rather than just expecting to cater the same audience. It's smarter. You can be more mature than expecting them to focus all their resources just on a smaller audience. Let other people play to :)

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Your arguments are getting thinner and thinner sir. The game obviously is there primarily for the crowd that never got to play those Guitar Heros in the first place on the PS2. Obviously those that already have the games and don't find the new instruments worthwhile are not the target audience.

Do you always bitch when a port is made to a new console, because people should have played the original? I see your collection itself shows you having Mario 64 for the DS and the N64, which basically shows this is merely you being a hypocrite.

I didn't quite understand this line, but if your trying to say I have the GH 1,2 and 80's then no that's not true. I did however play them and found GH 2 to have the best track list imo of any guitar hero, which is the main reason why i'm glad I can finally get some of those songs for my wii.

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

@ctk, give it a rest. I never had a PS2 and I never had a Guitar Hero before 3. I'll be getting this game. It's got some awesome songs, and the gameplay has never changed. I don't care if they make 20 Guitar Hero and Rock Bands a year. The discs are cheaper than the DLC, and there are tons of gamers who don't even have their consoles online, so DLC isn't an option for them. So the discs are a smarter business choice for the developer and for the consumer. And if they make 100 games a year, that gives me a bigger variety to choose from, and I might pick the best 1 or 2 per year. That is AWESOME.

So... should they stop making Mario games or Madden games because we've all played them before? The port of Okami sold better than the original. Now that there's a huge audience for Guitar Hero, and it has established itself as a huge successful franchise, and there are tons of people with the instruments, this game could sell really well.

Also, I have Super Mario Bros. on the NES, SNES, Game Boy Color, and Virtual Console. And I'll buy it 100 more times if I have to.

let us see there's 48 songs and they would be 200 points each meaning it would take 9600 points to get each song or 5 wii points cards a total of a 100$ so I would rather have this as a disc for 50$ then dlc

frist day buy for me

Seems like a pretty awesome track list, I will be purchasing this for More than a Feeling, Carry on Wayward Son, Woman, and several others from Guitar Hero 1 and 2. I just wish it had Sweet Child of Mine.

I dont like the bolded songs, and  wow at the gh 3 songs, only 8?? and i dont like half of those. What about clifs of dover, pride and joy, reptilia, le grange, paint it black, paranoid, WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE (no Welcome to the jungle or sweet child o mine, that sucks). Same with gh2 songs, but there are like 20 songs so, its ok. I would prefer bulls of parade over killing in the name.

From gh1, i cant say because i miss that game, like encore 80s, all i can say its than im happy because im going to play bark at the moon, killer queen, more than a feeling, smoke on the water, cowboys from hell, no one knows, cough in a mosh, electric eye and nothing but a good time.
