Xbox 360 is like the standard platform then he can decide in between a Wii or a PS3.

Your friend would probably enjoy a 360 more than a ps3 at the moment. Do tell him that he'll need to shell out more than the 200 an arcade appears to cost.

If buying for the past, he should get a X360.  If he's buying for the present and the future, he should probably get a PS3.  Nothing beat GT and Motorstorm in the racing world.  MAG is looking to be the mother of all shooters.  TPS like Uncharted 2 is looking to be huge from the hands on previews, etc, etc.

Every racer this gen sucks besides Burnout Paradise and Motorstorm.

Having both platforms, the Playstation 3 definately has more variety, if we include PSN that variety expands significantly, but if he is only looking into two genres then the decision isnt clear to me.
