Forums - Sales - Why Microsoft entered the Console War

LOL!  Oh I'm sure he has a few alts on here, just isn't using them all the time yet.

Unfortunately I would have to believe from that he learned to use a proxy when doing such these days.  So it would likely be hard for the mods to track down his likely additional accounts.

PC gaming is increasing FASTER than console gaming!

That's not the perspective of developers who work on major game releases:

Epic blaming integrated PC chips:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=184431

EA/Infinity Ward/Crytek blaming piracy:
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/05/next-up-to-blame-piracy-for-pc-gamings-decline-peter-moore.ars

How about a newer link?

http://www.edge-online.com/news/ea-pc-becoming-worlds-largest-games-platform

why don't you take a look at sales... with the exception of exceptional games and low end games things tend to be pirated at a high rate.

You are doing the same mistake as many developers and publishers did when they looked at PC gaming. Don't think about pirates! Most of them won't buy games, so why are you even watching them?
When EA looked at piracy and then decided to fight piracy, they added DRM real costumers didn't want, and instead of helping it probably hurt their sales. Now after failures, EA now knows what PC gaming is all about and how to be successful on it.

EA and all the other publishers are giving support to PC more than ever, while consoles are losing support: http://kotaku.com/5241554/ea-showed-more-love-to-pc-and-ds-last-year

And how about we take a look at sales why don't we... in 2007 retail sales were only 30% of PC gaming's revenue. Digital Distribution services like Steam and Gamersgate grew 100% last year, China's Online Gaming grew over 75%, etc...

There are reasons why so many analysts think there won't be more than 1 console generation after the one currently.

Not to mention services like OnLive that can (in theory) stream games. Whilst most places in the world may not have network infrastructure just yet, after another console generation or 2, simply streaming games to a cheap PC could be the easiest and most convenient way to play games for numerous people.

Why stream to a PC? Wouldn't it be a lot more more convenient to have internet multi-media streaming (and gampad/waggle/etc input) capabilities build straight into TVs by that time?

That would be dependent on the person/household and whether thay can afford a new TV with the features built in. If they already have a PC the initial hardware cost probably won't be as high (input already present), so streaming to a computer may actually make a lot of sense. If they have a laptop or if PC entertainment centers have taken off then streaming to a PC and playing on TV actually makes sense.

But I doubt many TV manufacturers will have the a game streaming system built in until OnLive or equivalent services take off. Maybe Sony could have the capacity to bring out Playstation TVs but I doubt many of the others would and I think the time scale could be long than 1 generation. This means either having to buy extra hardware (controllers/waggle + some sort of signal converter) or just streaming to PC (just the converter) until such a time as Playstation Bravia/ X-Box (Toshiba or any other TV manufacturer) type TVs come out. I mean, we still use set top boxes for extra channels etc. over freeview.

I believe Microsoft entered the console market just to annoy Sony. Sega withdraw from video game industry just before Microsoft entered the video game industry.

It would appear that this isn't old news.

This story still makes me laugh at MS. and how they went and stole the PS3 idea add more of laughter to the story.

It makes me wonder who is really struggling.

Really?  go check out some accounts for the last fiscal year...

You mean gaming division right? Because if you did, you should know Microsoft is one of the most un-succesfull companies EVER when it comes to videogames.

In overall division both Sony and MS are fine.

Really? When you are one of the most succesfull electronic companies in the world and have 2-4 bad fiscal years and over 10 profitable fiscal years you are not hurting yourself THAT hard.

I'm not, I have just this account.

But I surely banned a lot of you folk with multiple accounts on AmigaWorld (as you don't share who you are, maybe you too). We tracked IP adresses due to mass trolling, as often mistakes were made (with cloaking IP adresses) a lot of stealth trolls were monitored and quickly removed when needed.

"XraalE" also known as "KennyR" is a loud mouth hot tempered individual (and MorphOS supporter). Someone described him as following: "KennyR - a well known MorphOS guerilla marketing puppet, who after being slammed on forums for many months, finally noticed that he no longer can stand it and gave up. He still contributes to some forums, but gives nothing of substance at all."

He got banned at our main rival sister site Amiga.org for insulting too many people (he did so on nearly all the Amiga forums, thus he was banned from AmigaWorld as well). But from his perspective:

XraalE:

I don't deny it - even nearly two years later, every day I think of the injustice of that ban and the events that led up to it, my blood boils."

"He [Wayne] claims that I'm getting a lot of complaints. I ask him again to look at who's complaining. All's well until Neko, who had been idling there for no reason known to us, sees Wayne and what I get to see is the kind of thing you would see when 14 year old exchanging obscenities and deeply personal insults. Wayne leaves before I can silence Neko. "

Neko is or was the head of developer relations at Genesi (Kenny was part of the AmigaSucks or AmigaZeux team ). Also someone with a hot temper, just like many other people I consider having repetitive trolling tendencies.

It's interesting seeing trolls here quote Moobunny trolls and the other way around, but what's the use of all this really? It won't change the things which happened in the past. You feel Genesi screwed you? Move on. You feel AmigaOS4.x should have died as a commercial project instead? Ignore it. Your issues have nothing to do with VGChartz and the discussions taking place here.
