Forums - Gaming - DFC: PlayStation 3 Could Surge Ahead in 2009

It is possible

according to me Ps3 has 2nd place ALREADY due to JAPAN

Now with the wii, you just never know

According to the rest of the world, the 360 is in 2nd.

The PS3 has to diminish the gap between NA sales of the 360, and it has to do better in EU. As someone pointed out earlier, for it to overtake the 360 by 2009, the PS3 would have to outsell it by half a million consoles a month. So, the PS3 will have to have domination sooner or later.

So, when does the domination start? MGS4?

@Dolla Dolla

it'll start with

GT 5 - EU n JAP

MGS 4 - Everywhere else

Supporter of

 SONY & Nintendo

 I DO NOT support Xbox

My prediction for YEARS END:

WII - 18.3 Million

Xbox 360 - 15 Million

Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million

Also note they are talking Software REVENUE and not software profit.

Considering your average PS3 game sells for 10 dollars more then your average wii game that means the Wii would need to sell 7 games for every 6 games the PS3 sells and that the "hardcore" base is are the ones most likely to buy a lot of software this really isn't that bold of a claim. The larger install base helps but when it's mostly casuals added on, it doesn't help that much, part of the reason there are higher attach rates on systems that sell worse.

The Wii likely will still win out on Software profit as if reports can be believed it costs about half to make a good quality wii game and even less to make a cash in wii game. To match in profitability in the software racket the PS3 would probably have to sell double the wii in software or more.

i said basically the same thing about 3 posts above you.

any article or story that contains the word 'could' is to be taken with a pinch of salt, it's all guesswork.

COULD generate $47 billion.

Xbox selling power COULD be on the wane.

We COULD have a situation where the Wii sells more hardware units.

The Nintendo DS COULD eventually become the best selling game system ever in five years.

..........ioi COULD sell this site to Google for $1 billion is my prediction!

I don't know, $ony has a lot of ground to make up and they will need to make a few more price adjustments to get there. In the meantime, Microsoft and (eventually) Yentindo will drop their prices, so if P$3 does pulls ahead, a longterm date like 2012 is more likely than 2008 or 2009.

Are you serious...$ony, P$3 and Yentindo?  Oh wait, nevermind.  Your name ends with 69.  That means you're just a bad*ss that can type that sort of thing.

"and the Nintendo Revolution can hope for no more than 35 per cent"

ROFL... oh boy, the past...

And I don't know, PS3 has a shot at overtaking the 360, but not in '08... in '09 MAYBE, but its not all about price... the Xbox brand is just more accesible to the normal people.

"But the Xbox 360's selling power could be on the wane, according to DFC's research."

Am I the only one that sees this as a huge flaw in the analysis? the 360 seems to be really hitting it's stride right now. It's got a list of major games coming as long as your leg, and is entering a very friendly price range. And all this NA only argument ignores that it's selling alright in Europe right now too.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

and I predict Lichtenstein will conquer Europe in 2009.

It really must be nice to be able to get paid to make these predictions..........

With games like Bioshock, and Halo3 already here, and GTA4 on the way, I really don't see how a more expensive system, with less games (PS3) is going to be able to put the 360 away, especially in that short of a timeframe. I think the PS3 has an uphill battle. Customer loyalty only goes so far.
