this was top "core" games versus whatever the top 10 of the other consoles was. If we had taken the top 10 games for Wii they have already broke 100m sold (this isn't including Wii Sports). People like to say the Wii is only for the "causals" and that core people don't buy the Wii. By looking at "core" only games you are eliminating the "casual" audience (in theory).

Anways, Yes, the Wii should be outselling the competition and it is.

I think congrats goes to 360, being less than 1% behind Wii in these "core" games and yet having a nearly 40% deficit in consoles sold. Pretty danmed impressive if you ask me. Given the inherent innacuracy in game sales data the difference between 360 and Wii is not statistically significant and it is equally possible that 360 has a slight lead over Wii.

PS3 doing pretty dang well also: at way less than 50% of Wii consoles sold it is far in excess of 50% in this top 10 core games comparison.

If anything this data shows Nintendo is not acheiving the kind of sales in core games that one would expect from a console with such a large install base. I.e. both PS3 and 360 WILL have better core game sales if/when they get to 50 million install base.

It is simply nuts to compare software sales in an absolute sense between systems that have vastly different install bases. The only time this sort of comparison is noteworthy is when the system with a lower install base is doing as well or better in absolute game sales than the system with the higher install base. Hence my first comment about how impressive the 360 is according to your definition and data.

The only lesson here is that PS3 really needs to pull finger and sell more consoles, if it does then it will sell many and more games. Sony has probably learned the lesson, but lacks the ability to pull finger right now. But is this news to anyone?

swap out the lower games with the ones I pointed out and the Wii will be a few million ahead. Take the top 10 wii games and it will be 50m ahead.

The reason I chose the games I did is so we can compare "cores". Wii's total sales doesn't matter because we are attempting to compare "core" install base.
As nordlead has mentioned, what I'm trying to point out is that the Wii core audience (5M, 10M, 30M???) has more software sales on Wii than 360/PS3 Top 10 ((hard)core+casual).

Why are people constantly bringing up the 'Install base is huge so 'X' game should have sold better'? The install base isnt as important as youd think. Remember Okami? Released when the PS2 had over 100 million units sold. The game has sold better on Wii.

you do realize this is Nintendo only games, not third party at all.  As others said there are a bunch of games that have sold more than some of these games that aren't on the list cause not nintendo made. 

so this just shows that NINTENDO only is above the best games on the other two systems. not surprising by looking at software totals each week and unless some game comes out that sells a million or something then NINTENDO is on top.

Yeah, we all know nintendo is great and their games sell alot more than others, but its not for everyone and for the people like me and others the best games are on the ps3/360, thats why there are 3 consoles in the market, and the data expressed here demostrates that, so nothing we didnt know.

Wow, KZ2 is about to outsell metroid LTD. And on less than half the install base. Not bad :)
