This isn't another argument about the definition of hardcore so before I start I'll clarify my definition of (hard)core. I don't mean TBAG games (Tits, Blood And Gore), my definition is pretty much the same as Nintendo's ie core games, Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. I'm not including Wii Sports or Wii Fit or any other "casual" games that sold millions, I'm only going to include the top 10 games that people knew about and played before the Wii came along, the non-expanded audience if you will.

For 360 and PS3 I'll just use the top 10 sellers instead of taking out any "casual" games.

Total = 55.8M       360 Top10 = 55.61M     PS3 = 34.94M

So what's my point?

My point is that even without Nintendo's new "casual" games it appears that Nintendo classics are more popular than the 10 best selling games on 360 or PS3. I was suprised by how well Nintendo's latest iterations had sold. It also appears that their are more core/old school gamers on the Wii than 360 or PS3 or maybe Nintendo's core buy more games.

I'm sure someone will mention that the combined core audience of 360/PS3 is greater than Wii. I'd just like to point out that the 360 had a 1yr head start and I could have included Duck Hunt at 23M.

All first party titles, all it shows is that Nintendo first party am gods. :O

The only company along with Sony whom have me purchase a console just because of first party, I salute you. Almost forgot about PD for a second.

They have more people buying games, good games too, so no surprise

@RPG, if we want to include 3rd party games and take out some lower 1st party games the Nintendo total would just be higher.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition = 1.57
Sonic and the Secret Rings = 2.04
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (it is within X360's top 10) = 4.19
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (a lego game was in x360's top 10) = 2.53

All of which sold better than some of the 1st party games.

Anyways, that is interesting to see as I hadn't run the numbers myself.

The 360's 1 year head start means nothing when almost every game in the top 10 was released in 07 and 08 (Gears of War was released in America a week or two before the Wii and PS3 launched).

Since before the Wii generation. Once nintendo became popular fans of microsoft/sony had to marginalize nintendo by calling them kiddy and casual.

I'm not arguing against the Wii but given it's world-wide lead in number of units sold, shouldn't it's top performers outsell the others? In much the same way that 360 games should outsell PS3 ones?

What is noteworthy, IMO, is when the system(s) with the much smaller base, sell similar numbers (eg when PS3 games get near or top sells of 360 ones, etc)...but that is just me.

so what are you trying to get at? that there is more total than 360 or Ps3 it's Barely up from the 360 so that really doesn't say much it's withing 200,000 so if you take into acount the user base it's not much. But as we know the wii sells software the 360 sells software and even the ps3 sells software

1. People were still trying to get a Wii in 07 and 08. No point buying games if you can't get a Wii yet.
