Forums - Sales - Lame Sales/Console War argument im tired of hearing...(Day 1)

I wonder if anyone else is familiar with the concept of canceling out. The added functionality in the PS3 cancels out the early launch for the 360. Sony decided to start late so they could use their console as a market penetration tool for both format and CPU technologies. Microsoft launched sooner to gain market dominance. This mindset that Sony is getting mugged is fabricated bullshit.

For anyone talking this point they should also make the following statements. Had the 360 launched later it would have had a better reliability, and had the PS3 launched sooner it would have had half the functionality. All things are equal to obtain one thing you must sacrifice another. Whether the sacrifice was worth it is another matter entirely.

Speaking to why where something sells matter. Yes where something sells matters a great deal, because different markets are worth more. Japan is a market that is becoming increasingly marginalized, and long term prospects for console success are to be found in North America and Europe. Success in Japan is becoming less a plum, and more a prune. Success in North America or Europe are worth far more then success in Japan. They will pay out more in the long run.

Many Japanese developers have been very bullish on this point. They view being too successful in Japan as compared to being less successful in North America as a loss.

Its very frustrating that the what-if crowd doesn't understand this important point.

VERY VERY good point.  It drives me insane when people use the year head start theory.  People act like the 360 just a had a free years worth of sales.  Thats not the case at all.  The fact is if both consoles had launched at the same time both the PS3 and 360 would be very different looking machines.  One would either have more improvements or the other would have less than it does now.

It wouldn't matter so much if we didn't get the same theories dragged up time and again... Sigh, one contributing factor towards one group of fanboys stellar reputation.

Unfortunately, Squilliam, we will be hearing these theories dragged up throughout this console generation. It's hard for fanboys to face facts

Being in 2nd feels so much better than being in 3rd

Well thats ok, you just have to laugh at them at every chance you get. Like for example the No FFXIII demo download for PS3 due to Xbox 360 version thread. Go, and laugh! It will make it easier to cope with such childishness.

how did this topic Jump from me stating Japan sales Count to...what ever it is now.

...uhh...ill just put my favorite quote of all time here.

"Welcome to Pain, the second of three...You have dealt the first...now deal with me!!"

What I always found entertaining is how one week we get this.

"Such and such game only has higher LTD sales because of Japan"

Then the next week we get this

"Japan is an insignificant territory"

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I knew exactly what you meant when I read the OP.

I heard for a week or so about how RE5 was only ahead in LTD because of Japan. This was said repeatedly once the NPD results came out for that month and it was clear that the PS3 was ahead.

Then PS3 goes on this nice run in Japan in terms of hardware sales, Sony titles in the Japan Top 10, etc... and it was quickly responded with things like Japan being insignificant.

The tune changes weekly here. You'll get accustomed to it after a while.

I notice more and more new posters who tend to have a more than obvious favorable opinion toward Sony are poppin' up day after day on these threads. It's as if Sony has targeted VGC in a vicious viral marketing attack.
