You really think that would be enough? It wouldn't be for me. I mean think of the implications.
Persona 5. That's one of your biggest brands. Not to mention releasing it on PS3 would almost definitly mean needing to reuse the engine... which would mean reusing a lot of the art assets... but not all of them.
Which means for future games they would need to make HD models of at least the quality sony was funding so it fits in with the previously reused monster models.
Which would cost that same money.
If it were me... it'd take a multi-game funding gurantee.

@ Kasz - *sigh* man, The point i been trying to make is " its not impossible", its fairly reasonable, Persona is ninche like you said, so throwing a title ninche title on a fairly casual is gonna be a automatic win???, look at Disgaea 3 that super ninche, but look how well it sold PS3 definitely can sell ninche games
| yagaminoue said: The Wii seems to be the most logical choice for Persona 5, since it's easier to develop for and costs less to develop for than the PS3. Furthermore, Persona is a game that relies heavily on its art style, so having more realistically rendered people isn't a must, since it's usually a hand-drawn portrait that does the talking. And considering the Wii is about twice as powerful as the PS2, I think that leap in visual power is good enough. That said, I would love to see it on the PS3 with really nice cel-shaded graphics like Tales of Vesperia's. But in either case, this is still a rumor from a totally random blog site that has multiple spelling and grammatical errors, so as a huge Persona fan I'm wary of getting my hopes up. |
See this isn't necessarily true. The only thing that rises costs are really nice graphics. We already know that not all developments spend the money on the PS3 or 360. So, Disgaea 3, despite being on the PS3, is likely to near the same budget of Disgaea 1 and 2.
I say this because Atlus will not be pushing any graphical boundaries regardless of platform.

If they plan to step into HD development in a real way... AKA big budget high graphics.... then PS3 is an even bigger mistake because it would risk the actual company which provides us with so many great niche titles. PS3 development is the worst possible videogame platform currently on the market it could be for... unless it was multi-plat... all things even. |
Less of a risk than making it for the 360......

Lets not forget how the ninche DEMONS SOULS sold on PS3

They can just use the engine Sony made for devs then.
Prediction:
TGS this year for PS3 will be amazing.
Grandia comes to PSN(PSone classic).
First Versus gameplay this year.

It's the least reasonable choice though.
Possible yes. Reasonable... if there is a definition where all other consoles are more likely but it still could happen.
I guess?

Was the move more of a business decision, perhaps reflective of a feeling that the PS2 has one foot in the grave and it's time to move on?
No, not at all. In fact, if we consider the install base of PS2 and PS3, PS2 is financially a far less risky platform to release on. However, in order to provide our fans with the best gaming experience, we wanted to release Disgaea 3 for PS3.

They had to enhance the engine and sprites to HD levels. That alone would make the budget much higher than the first two games.

Yeah. 360 is cheaper.
Shin Megami Tensei NINE sold relativly well... and 360's are cheap as all hell so people could just buy the system for it if the fanbase isn't already there.
It's much bigger then PS3 in the US... and the US/Japan sales are about even.
These niche games... these are the real "System sellers".
The only problem is... you don't notice... because the number of systems they sell are very small. Since it's niche.
