I absolutely hate auto-regeneration in shooters, and that's why I stopped playing them. I'd play Doom 2 over Halo 3 any day of the week.

Regenerating is for n00bs. I want a finite amount of health, a finite amount of health packs, and a near-infinite amount of monsters. Anything less is "casual."

If you're being serious, then I totally agree. If not, you're acting like a big, hairy, smelly dick.

I'm dead serious.  I'd rather have to find my way to a health pack hidden behind an ocean of monsters than hide behind a crate for 3 seconds.  I think it makes it too easy, too unrealistic, and it just kills the mood.  I get rewarded for hiding?  I should get rewarded for smashing up some monsters, and PENALIZED for hiding.

I don't mind it that much although I prefer the old HB with Health packs bu they all leads to the same end

looking for too much reality in games is boring unless it's a sports game

The issue I have with health pack hunting is that it disrupts the flow of play. Your health gets low, so you have to then hunt the board to get health packs. Halo and Call of Duty are likely both responsible for this change. And the sales seem to show this is preferred.

Anyhow, I do believe there is a place for everything. Like Left 4 Dead benefits from having health packs you use. It works real well. Other games, where you have shields, are different. I believe Uncharted was better because it had regeneration of health, rather than health packs.

Honestly I like both methods. Health meters obviously make the shooting much more frenetic, because every bullet that hits you has a lasting impact and shapes what you have to do next. On the other side of the coin, regeneration adds a layer of strategy and back and forth to the gameplay that you don't get with health meters. I do wish more shooters used the health bar at this point, but I enjoy both.

I agree I like the old health pack...

i like both but i think i enjoy regenerating a little more than looking for health packs

Long Live SHIO!

I perfer regenerating health in single player. Meters with medkits in Multiplayer.

Additionally I think a "capped" regeneration would work well.

Like if you drop below 75% health you can only slowley regenerate to 75% health... etc.

that actully is how KZ2 Multiplayer works. If you get below 50% you regenerate back to 50% after that you have to find a med pack to go back to 100%

The two system would be best combined. Correctly, that is.

What? Shooters nowadays have regenerating health? :s That's weird, I wouldn't like that. I hardly play any FPS games, last ones were Timesplitters FP and Red Steel, and those didn't have it. Never played a shooter that regenerated your health anyway.
