Forums - Sony - PS3 Trophies and how they underachieve

About 360: gamerscore is a simple number. It reminds me of money. For me it's boring. The sole existence of trueachievements.com shows gamerscore system is not enough for many people.

About ps3: I think nobody in this thread explained a nice aspect of trophies. You need more and more "trophy points" in order to progress in levels. It's harder to go from level 5 to 6 than it is from 4 to 5. This is a typical gaming challenge: leveling up is increasingly more and more difficult. Very difficult in fact beginning from levels 6-7.
Another aspect that hasn't been commented: typically, obtaining a platinum needs much more effort than the "points" reward you get for it (equivalent to only 12 bronzes). So a platinum is a big reward in itself.
So in the end, thanks to the trophy system, in this thread i've been able to see 2 incredibly strong gamers: bbsin level 12 and 9 platinums and aildiin level 13 and 17 platinums. This is CRAZY. I'll look to your opinions carefully in the future.

I like true achievements.

If you 1000 an easy game like NBA 2K6 you will only get somthing like 1100 true gamerscore points

But if you 1000 a rock hard game like Tony hawks project 8 you earn 6000 true gamerpoints.

So in order to have a good true gamerscore you have to balance playing both easy and hard games in order to have a respectable true gamerscore.

If you play too many easy games your ratio won't rise much above 1.20.

I'm currently at 1.62.

Platinum trophies are all good, but surely its fair to say that some platinums have far higher value than others. (in terms of difficulty and prestige)

the problem with trophies is that they are a half ass rip off of achievements

much in the same way that primal rage was a half ass rip off of street fighter 2

Please.

I don't know where everyone is getting the idea that MS was first with the whole achievements/trophies thing.

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal had trophies back in 2004 before the the 360 itself was even announced, much less achievements.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

@ ronster: not talking about ms or sony, just in general:

a difficult prize (whether it's a bronze one, only gives you x2 or whatever) is a difficult one. Does it really matter whether someone else can fap to your 1.62 ratio or to your 7 platinum thingies?

Difficult-to-get ones will be known by fans anyway, regardless of their status.

At least, that's what I think... just want to hear your opinion ^^

@ronster

True achievements? Is that not an outside site that conducts that service for you?

Just look at your sig, there is no point talking to you.
Any evidence contrary to you own opinions are going to be ignored. Even what I just said, you will ignore that you ignore.

well well well

I agree on the fact that it do TAKES TIME to see other gamers's trophies, and this sincro thing IS boring !

As being or not attached to your trophies or/and to your gamecard is just a matter of feeling. Feel attached to what you want. it's a consequence, not a cause.

Your main point is... pointless : trophies and achiement ARE the same on multiplat games, so their value in term of gameplay are... the same.
That's were you fail.

Also, I DO like the sound when a trophy is earned, and I like the level up stuff a lot.

So I would call it a win for trophies, nearly draw

That's OK that you agree with the article, but does it surprise any of us? I don't see mods post articles like this hardly ever. Everyone on this site also knows you're a ninja 360 fanboy, so it's no surprise you post an article like this about the PS3. Just like you banned me for calling out an anti-PS3 troll in a pro-PS3 discussion. (And he didn't even get a warning, like he never does, cuz he does almost the same thing you do)

Tell me something...what do you LIKE about the PS3? Everything you post about the PS3, while trying your absolute hardest to sound unbiased, is anti-PS3. I think I may remember you saying one good thing about the PS3...ever. Every time you make a discussion thread, it's 90% of the time about something being wrong with some feature or offering of the PS3.

All the exclusives you try, you get on and pick apart and go on and on and on about what's wrong with the game. Every feature the system offers you have a problem with.

I'll get banned for this because he's ninja, though.

Sorry I've been ignoring this thread, I was busy most of yesterday and it ballooned to over 100 replies and I just don't feel like reading that.  Aynways, this post caught my eye (mainly because someone pointed me to :-p) so here you:

lets put it this way...
if you accomplished something would u want a piece of paper saying "congratulations you have 1000 points!" or would u like a big shiny trophy u could look at every day ^_^

I just like the concept of a score above the one you have.

Maybe it doesn't matter to some people wether they can or can not beat a persons 1.62 or 7 platinums ect, but based on the growth of true achievements it would appear that it does matter to some.

Difficult ones will be known yes, but true achievements just has a different take on it.

I find the wealth of stats and rankings quite appealing, thats just me.
