Halo 3 sells because it is awesome.

Halo sold well because the series is the must-have series in the FPS genre.

Competition? Halo 3 had to deal with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare shortly after it's release. Only a newbie to VGC (sorry bud) would not 'get' that Halo had major compeititon.

I don't get the exclusives issue, how does that matter? The 360 had a glut of exclusives in 2007.

Sorry, but I'm tired of newbies and their apologetic attitude for great SW sales on the 360. The system does well, get over it. Instead, focus on flegdling PS3 sales, and analyzing how Sony can somehow make it back to the top of the heap.

The point is that a lot of Halo fans don't seem to realize that there are other FPS fans that don't think Halo is anything special.  There's no doubting that it has been an important series for Microsoft, but I have a long list of FPS games I'd rather play before Halo.  I find the Rainbow Six Vegas series, Call of Duty series, Medal of Honor Airborne, Killzone, Metroid Prime 3, Medal of Honor Heroes 2, Resistance series and Battlefield Bad Company to all be more fun than Halo.  But, again, that's just me.  And before you flame me...yes I've played the Halo series.  Liked it.  Didn't love it.

Not sure that is any point worth agruing since the same can be said about many other titles and things as well.

Halo is popular among xbox owners. That's it. It has virtually no notoriety among PC gamers who've had better FPS games for years. I see why it's popular, but it most certainly isn't a must have for fans of the genre. See Zero Punctuation's Halo 3 review for clarification here.

I really liked Halo: Combat Evolved, but Halo 3 felt incredibly phoned in. It's clear why its done well, but the must have factor you speak of is for an Xbox owner, rather than for someone who likes FPSes.

Wait wait, why are MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted etc. "AAA" exclusives and games like Mass Effect, Forza, Fable, Dead or Alive 4 not?

Good question, but rest assured, it's not because of fanboyism.

Well I believe that goes without saying.

The J man was wrong , this is a truly insightful thread and he looks forward to more amazing threads from you rafichamp.

This blog entry is SPOT ON. Halo is fun, but despite FPS being my favorite genre I never found the Halo series to be anything special. Fun? Definitely. Worthy of all of its fanboy hype and praise as one of the greatest things ever? Hardly.

The PS3 has a ton of excellent - outstanding exclusives either already released or forthcoming. Even though I want to someday buy a 360, it's pretty obvious that the only reason that Microsoft has spent a ton of cash getting some of the former Playstation exclusive titles to go mulitplatform is because their list of top tier exclusives is short.

Besides Finalfantasy what else is there?

GTA.

I thought MS had Paid for this too...But word RockStar ask MS for a Loan and that's why the DLC for GTA are exclusive....So no...MS did not pay for GTA IV exclusive content....and I'm not sure that they paid for FFXIII

I thought you meant what exclusives went multi, as we don't even know, if FFXIII was paid for, which you strangely claimed earlier, and now are questioning... make up your mind.

I think you got me confused...What did i say before?

That's what doug had said..So I asked that besides Final Fantasy XIII what other games is he talking about...I asked this becuase I had Like everyone else thought that Final Fantasy XIII was a PS3 exclusive..Square Enix had said so...And Until last year's E3 it was still Exclusive...No one has said that MS Paid SquareEnix to make this MultiPlatform...So anyways...besides Final Fantasy the one game that was annouced as a PS3 exclusive i have not heard of any other games going Multi Platform...As For GTA it stopped being exclusive a while ago...and since everyone says that MS paid for FFXIII I assume this is true although I have not read any official statement regarding this..so hence why I'm not sure if MS paid FFXIII

Halo and Gears are that good but the rest of MS' first party exclusives so far (with a few exceptions maybe Fable and Mech Assault and Crimson Skies on original xbox) have been rather meh.

Yes, but your validated what he said in your reply. You should have said "Assuming for the sake of argument, that Final Fantasy was bought out". I thought that you agreed with him, but now I know you don't. End of disucssion.

I consider Mass Effect AAA, if it's any consolation.  I'm looking forward to playing it.  I may buy it on the PC before I get a 360, however.
