Forums - Microsoft - 3D: Why a new Xbox is coming sooner than later

this is making me physically sick posting this, but here are patchers thoughts. He agrees with me which makes me sick, but note, I had this idea, and its been posted with just a bit of modification since the end of last summer, so i saw this coming before this jackass i do not trust said it. I do feel he is right this time though I say 2012 to his 2013 at earliest :

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter doesn’t expect a new hardware cycle to begin before 2013.

“We do not expect a “new” console in 2010 (other than the long-rumoured high definition Wii, which is likely to upgrade the Wii to current console technology),” he wrote in an industry newsletter.

“We do not expect the ‘next’ generation to begin before 2013, if at all,” he added.

“We remain convinced that the publishers will resist the introduction of any video game hardware technology that requires a refresh of software, as the publishers have as yet to capitalise on the immense investments made in being competitive in the current cycle.

“We therefore think it is likely that the ‘next’ generation will begin after 2013, meaning that software sales are likely to grow by a compounded annual rate of 6–10 percent for another five years.

“Because R&D costs are likely to flatten out with the benefits of a learning curve, we expect earnings leverage as the publishers are able to exploit R&D investments. In brief, we think that investors have it wrong so far this cycle, and think that investment in video game publishers will bear fruit for many years.”

Earlier this week Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the publisher was already preparing for the next generation of consoles, which he expects to launch in the next few years.

"We need to get ready for the future generation of consoles," he said. "In the next few years, there will be new home and handheld consoles, and if you don't invest... you will not be able to cope with both [the existing and new generation consoles].”

Yeah, but one of the biggest drawing cards of the 360 is that it is a good place to play games like Fallout 3 with pc quality graphics cheaply.  Do you really think the 360 can keep putting out pc graphics quality games until 2013 without its ports of pc games starting to look about as awful as Atari 2600 ports of some of the more advanced arcade games of the early eighties did?

its not the looks, and no they are not nearly that bad yet. its about the dollars and cents and public (middle range gamers) willingness to buy. a new console too soon is dead it will create the same kinda sad spin that hurt the dreamcast which sadly died crib death read my post prior to the patcher drivel to see  in more detail what im saying

Yeah, I said that they are not nearly that bad yet.  But when PC games really start looking so much better then no one will really have any reason to buy a 360 especially since most of the games on it are western pc type games.

xbox consoles are in as much of a race to keep up with pc technologies as they are to keep up with the other consoles and if they wait a year or two too long pc games will be dramatically beyond 360 games so the 360 would be moot as a gaming console.

These Speculations are getting retarded....I doubt MS is going to kill the 360 as it reaches the height of it's success..

Yeah, I didn't think Microsoft was going to kill off the original xbox at the height of its success in 2005 either.  And, did anyone tell you its not polite to start throwing around insults?

I think MS cuaght Wiff of the PS3 and made their move...I read an article with one of the guys at IBM that worked of Teh Cell...Acording to him when Microsoft found out about Teh Cell MS made thier move....And Even more shocking....He said the Xbox 360 recieved almost the same thing as the PS3 only difference was that MS told them what they wanted instead of just cloning the Sony Cell...I know I was schoked too..But don't call me a liar call out GameInformer

My point is this should explain why I feel the Xbox and the Xbox360 are being treated differently at MS...but just like all those articles about the NextBox i'm just speculating....though I'm not being retarded about it

MSFT cut the Xbox early because it was a break-in machine + Nvidia and MSFT didn't really click profesionally as a vendor/fab relationship.

Sony and Microsoft will not do anything before Nintendo. Bank on that.

Most console makers traditionally try to launch their consoles with a killer app, to encourage early adapters to buy the system.  According to some sources, the Halo series is loosing a bit of steam these days.   Do you see another series on the 360 that would be able to attract early adapters to the next MS console much as Halo 3 coming to the 360 was a big impetus for early adapters to pay thousands of dollars for the 360 during the Christmas holidays '05?  If there is one, what series is it and when should the next game in that series be scheduled for release if one looks at when the other games in the series were released?

Commenting on what would be a Killer App for the NextBox would make seem stupid since I'm trying to say that the 360 has alot of Life in left...
