I'm still waiting for proof that Gears of War 2 won 35% of overall graphics awards from major outlets.

Something tells me I'll be waiting forever.

Reality will. Everytime I walk away from a 360 or PS3 I'm strongly reminded that no matter how far they come they are still infinitely far away from the real thing.

This is why if I had to vote, I would vote for SFIV.  I don't even like the game, from the small amount I've played, but I think it looks amazing.  No matter how good realistic graphics look, they will ALWAYS look like cheap computer-generated attempts at capturing an aesthetic that they will never be able to capture.  That's why I personally prefer games that just create their own artistic aesthetic and try to fully explore it.  In that regard, SFIV was a graphical triumph.

I think Heavy Rain will get best PS3 graphics, Alan Wake best on 360, and Assassins Creed as best Multi-Plat graphics

don't for get the Conduit. lol

I remember the original Lost Planet looking good but I don't remember being blown away. Is my memory faulty, or why should we expect LP2 to suddenly be "OMG new standard for graphics"?

Terms like the KZ2 killer, and the new benchmark are being used to describe LP 2 all over the internet forums. It still has 1 year of development left. To be honest most of the internet has recieved LP 2 with open arms. Calling it simply stunning. And well it's definately amazing. It has by far the best explosions over any current game. Check out the smoke and balls of fire. Also the shockwaves on the vegetation. Nothing like that currently out. All this running with a huge boss and awesome detail. Very impressive.

Point me to a serious analysis, those internet forums are delusional. Really, LP2 is technically not up to par with Gears 2 from what was shown in those trailers.

It looks good as a whole, it's smooth and I like the vegetation.

But please look at the details: there's no proper dynamic lighting from the rockets or other moving light sources, nor from the weapon muzzle, the particles follow a simplified physic and only collide with the ground, the explosions and blurs look like bidimensional posteffects. The gila-like monster sort of looks good, but it's all a bump map and a specular map, and the same was true of a giant bug I saw in the jungle trailer. The models are unremarkable.

Graphically I found it flashy, but not really particularly impressive.

Muramasa. Even the stills blew me away.

If GT5 makes it out this year it will trump all the other games put together.

GoW 3 won't be out this year, so if GT5 isn't either, then KZ2, Heavy Rain or Uncharted 2.

Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2.

Alan Wake wont be released.
Splinter Cell Conviction looks meh.

HEAVY RAIN could be up there also.

@ WereKitten. I dont need what you call so called proper analysis. I use my eyes. As does the millions of other gamers on the net. :)

With still 1 year of development left it's mind boggling. But then I dont expect PS3 fanboys to agree. It must hurt seeing the 360 pull that off.

LP2:

Explosions best over any current console game out.

Effects : Smoke, fire, shockwaves from explosions all better than any console game out to date.

Onscreen action mixed with level of detail better than any console game out. ( Enemy boss that big and that detailed with all those effects was astonishing )

What needs work: Water, some lighting effects were obviously missing from this 1 year early build.

Animation is superb, but still 1 year to improve.

Lastly post processing effects used to pure win in LP2. KZ2 used them well with explosions and shockwaves, but LP2 takes it higher. The shockwaves from explosions using these effects gives a feeling of heat coming towards the player. And the big boss when he moves and walks the shock visible on the foliage was awesome. Come to mind the foliage was amazing to. Moved brilliantly.

It's great to see people knock an amazing visual feast, just like those people that tried to say KZ2 wasnt impressive. I LOL at them to.
