Forums - Microsoft - Why Won't Japanese Gamers Buy The Xbox 360?

If posted already please lock the thread.

Enterbrain, publisher of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu, has polled its readers as to why they don't buy the XBOX 360. You know, the reasons why.

Here is the breakdown:

• Worried about its future 35.71 percent
• Price is high 7.14 percent
• No games I want to play 3.57 percent
• Another reason 53.57 percent

What were some of those other reasons? "I'm holding back from buying," said a 35-year-old man, "because it seems like new hardware is coming out." Another 35-year-old man stated, "It has a bad image because of that over 30 percent failure rate back when the console first launched." Other reasons included things like because it uses DVD and the very blunt "I have a PS3."

Xbox 360 = American made
American made = failure EX: our cars.

Any survey that has over 50% of response for 'another reason' should be taken out and shot

What do you mean ?! Last i heard Xbox 360 sold over amillion consoles in Japan!

In my opinion if it hadn't been for the RROD and other hardware problems the 360 would likely have sold another 3-4 million by now.

One thing you won't see mentioned a lot is that it's been branded the "otaku" console in the minds of most Japanese. (No, this is not a favorable thing.)

^ Contrary! Because of RROD it sold 3-4 million extra

I just posted it. Ask the source.

The hardware is just one reason. Most Japanese like the things they buy to last and the appreciate product quality a lot. Even though Microsoft has extended the warranty and the issues may have appeared in less frequency, it's still not enough. However I don't think it's the main reason

What I think it's the main reason is not about the hardware or it's games. I believe the reason is in how Microsoft approached the Japanese Market. You cannot attract Japanese customers by just having cool RPG's and other kind of games they like to play in the console. it's the image they presented to the audience. So it's a set of bad marketing decisions mostly

Well Sony and Nintendo are two major names in Japan so its safe to say people have brand loyalty.

Also a lot of them appear to be concerned it won't have a long life in Japan. Fortunately for MS the 360 is dominating the PS3 in the biggest markets.
