"OH NOES! NORMAL PEOPLE PLAYING GAMES AND HAVING FUN!!! BLSPHEMY"

Please...

I don't see anything bad about them. I actually liked them and are good attracting new gamers. You won't expect to attract new gamers with those stupid ads with girls in bikinis and weird artsy movie like crap do you?

They just show normal people playing and enjoying videogames down to earth.

The videogame world doesn't revolve around nerds ya know?

If by "NORMAL PEOPLE" you mean super popular, super rich stars and if by "HAVING FUN" you mean faking a laugh for 30 sec, then you are right. Otherwise, you need some serious help.

Those "super popular rich stars" are actors that can get thje attention of the mainstream on games. Who would you like them to show? a fat nerd with a star wars tshirt? or a weird black and white ad with nonsensical images? of course not.

The idea of using mainstream actors having fun with videogames catches the eyes of the audience and makes them interested because it brakes the wall between the hardkorez and the mainstream that has being rotting the videogame industry for years.

And people feeling "disgusted" because these actors are doing that just proves how closedminded is the "core" videogame audience.

talk about closed minded. I don't think I've ever read something where you weren't defending something relating to the wii, or praising some trivial detail while at the same time attacking another company (in bold). No offense intended, but I think you should take a step back and just look at the scenario.

Caaaaalm down ok? I am not attacking any company. I used it as an example because that kind of ads (like the bolded company you mention) work for the hardcore gamers but won't attract the mainstream audience. That was the point. So take it easy. Maybe you are the one that needs to look the whole scenario.

I'm just letting you know something that I think you should be aware of. It's important to look at something in it's own totality rather than in relation to other things.
I don't know anybody who said the squirrel commercials were good.
While I despise these commercials, they did provoke some discussion which is the whole purpose of marketing; buzz. So, in a way they were successful. So were the other ads that you critisize, although 10 times moreso.

One big criticism that you should be aware of is that none of these commercials are telling you why you should get them. The function is not being expressed in a way that would entice new customers the way that wii fit and brain age and nintendogs do.
This is a critical difference between nintendo's past success and today's marketing approach.
Using big name stars such as Beyonce, is revolting, IMO, because it's a substitute for that Nintendo appeal.
Plus, I don't like Beyonce for various reasons.

Well I don't like beyonce either. I kinda hate her voice heheh

But you can't deny that this marketing campaign has been working. The idea for Nintendo was to attract non-gamers. Non-gamers knows about music, movies and TV and using stars is a bridge to connect both mediums to them. I thinik is great because I do love to see more people playing videogames or at least make them interested on them and give them a try.

And if using big paid stars is a way, I welcome them.

I think a much better way to show the photo-editting aspect of the dsi would be to show kids interacting with it. Manipulating muscles or taking pictures with friends and writing on them with the stylus like japanese purikura, that is the essence of this generation. It's not some stupid game, it's a tool to remix the world around you and share the experience with freinds. I don't understand how this could have gone over their heads.

It does really make you wonder though, why would they pick one of the most expensive celebrities to demonstrate the music game? Jack Black would have been so much cooler and cheaper.

Actually is not because Jack Black has a very immature image and that's exactly why they don't select celebrities like him and if they show children they show them with their moms/aunts/sisters.

Remember they are aiming to the HUGE female demographics that don't play games because a) is for men b)is for children and/or c) for men that act like children. The idea is to take the "games are stupid" label from them. Women are a very strong sales demographic in the world (they are moms and wives and have the last word about family shoppings).

ok well as far as the beyonce one is concerned then I have to agree with you, that while not particularly my taste, it does make sense.
However, I think they are still going about the other ones incorrectly.
