Forums - Nintendo - I just don't get it. Why won't Nintendo make another FPS for the Wii?

I have purchased 2 Shooters from Nintendo in my life Duck Hunt, and Links CrossBow Training - the first because it came with Super Mario Bros and the second because it came with the Wii Zapper (which make MOH2 so much funner) and they were both awesome games.

But the simple fact of the matter is FPS games are not for Fun they are for Competition, and Nintendo dosn't make competitive games for males 18-25 to compare their virtual penis sizes in, they make fun games.

Competition and fun are not mutually exclusive. I mean geez, Smash Bros can be pretty competitive, so i guess that game isn't fun because it's competitive? What is with this 18-25 demographic as well? Seems like an arbitrary, baseless number you just threw out there. The elitism you're laying on thick here is such rubbish but it's no suprise there are people who actually prescribe to this.

No major 3rd party support for FPSs + kids, soccer moms, and old folks don't want to play these games.

Its not just FPS there missing alot of other types of games that seem to be getting more popular like fighting games featuring real fighters ex. boxing, cage fighting.  Also TPS like Gears and Uncharted that feature relistic environments seem to be the it thing right now, and wat about action sandbox games like GTA4, Infamous, Prototype.  There racing games r also lacking wheres F1, Nascar, they got Nascar kart racing that fails to emulate the real sport, and there missing a good racer that features real licensed cars.

Two reasons:

1. FPS games aren't the mass market appeal type games which suit Nintendos desired market in that they have limited appeal (Violence).

2. Third parties are better in this field than Nintendo.

FPSs are one of the most mainstream genres of video games. Even bad ones tend to sell well enough.

It's funny you say that.. How come Wii gets the most exclusives? I mean the majority of PS3 or 360 games I can just play on my PC.. How come Wii is getting 2 exclusives from Ubisoft in the second half of this year when 360 is getting one and the PS3 isn't getting any? How come EA have shifted half of their dev resources to Wii while the PS3 and the 360 have to share the same games? How come Wii gets it's own version of Dead Space when the other consoles have to share with each other AND the PC? How come Wii is the lead platform for Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10? How come Capcom is giving Wii exclusives like RE: UC, RE: DSC on top of all the classics when the other consoles only get RE5 which is basically painted RE4 and has to share with PC? How come the Wii has the best selling racing game ever? I thought you just said it was lacking? DiRT has been confirmed for Wii, F1 2009 is coming to Wii, not the other consoles. Wii also has the best selling fighter this generation, so obviously it's the more popular type of fighter.

im sure dead space for the wii will be miles ahead of its hd counter parts and will get better reviews and sell better too

How come Wii is the lead platform for Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10?

golf and tennis how fun i can just go to the park and do those activities for real rather than swing a plastic thing around in my house

How come Capcom is giving Wii exclusives like RE: UC, RE: DSC on top of all the classics when the other consoles only get RE5 which is basically painted RE4 and has to share with PC?

im sure RE UC RE DSC can compare with RE5 sales wise and review wise  how much did RE UC sell thats right 1.26 while only the ps3 version did close to that in the 1st week let alone 2 yrs

How come the Wii has the best selling racing game ever?

Yes go karts with characters from the 80s thats real racing

I thought you just said it was lacking? DiRT has been confirmed for Wii, F1 2009 is coming to Wii, not the other consoles

F1 is coming to the HDS as well not at the same time it will take longer since it will be an accurate game of the sport unlike the wiis

Wii also has the best selling fighter this generation, so obviously it's the more popular type of fighter.

Yes it does again characters of the 80s fighting unrealistically how can some whos watching boxing or MMA on TV relate to that and say hey i want to do wat there doing on TV in SSBB they cant but they can in Fight night 4 and UFC Undisputed that are on the HDs

Because they make more money by doing Wii-make games.

@BHR-3 in many ways I can understand your point of view, and I think there are many people like you, but there are many others who think Mario Kart is a much better game than the vast majority of 'realistic racers'.

And I don't think anyone can question quite how great Brawl is - there's a reason why it's sold over 8 million units - it rocks.

Basically, not everyone shares your taste in gaming - and I don't mean to bash it, it's just not what all gamers prefer...

P.S. @BHR-3 - I'm a little bit scared by your comment about "relating" to fighting games and wanting to do what they're doing on TV...

FPS games are too hardcore
Wii focuses on E rated games

Wii is the only place you can find No More Heroes, MadWorld, and the only console with Manhunt 2.  These games get banned, censored, and even almost get AO ratings for too much blood, gore, and torture.  If you're into ultraviolence (or zombies), Wii is the best system by far.

Besides, E is for Everybody, not just for kids.  The other consoles would sell better if they had some more E rated games.  Kids, elderly, and women aren't obsessed with hardcore gore and violence.  Nintendo really has all bases covered.

@The Ghost of RubangB I almost completely agree with you, but nonetheless I think Nintendo still has too little third party support to be said to have "all the bases covered". They've come a long way with third parties and I think they're making progress all the time, but they still have a way to go.

Once you see really big thrid party titles like GTA or a Devil May Cry getting released on the Wii, then I think they'll have all bases covered. I'd also argue that their online gameplay system needs work as well.
