Selnor,
Not everyone is looking for perfect simulations of racing cars. You clearly know what is best for what you want to play, but not everyone plays for the same reasons. Since the discussion is about Forza and GT, I'm not sure what the best wheel for F1 2010 has to do with anything.
Anyways, for me, 50 cars is better than 1000. It's the old "too many choices" syndrome. In Mario Kart, there are 18 karts and 18 bikes. It's really easy to race with them all and get a feel for the 5 or 6 that I like the most, and focus on getting better with those. If there were 200 cars, and they were all legitimately different, I would never really know if I was racing with the car best suited to me.
So for me, having 20 copies of extremely similar cars isn't a bad thing.
But it goes back to people playing for different reasons. If you race with a wheel and want to feel what all the cars actually feel like to drive, then maybe 1000 cars is a good thing. "400 cars and 100 tracks" doesn't do anything for me though.
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
