Forums - Sony - Gran Turismo 5 and some vgc opinions, wtf.

Lets get past the sales, and look at this from a purly game standpoint. PS3 fans, you bash 360 and Wii fans for having games that have no innovation, and are just rehashs. Please, turn off your fanboy hats and look at Gran Turismo 1 through 4. Good, are you back? Besides Graphics what has changed? Nothing! Gran Turismo has not fucking changed one bit since it launched in 1997. The only addition is tracks, cars, and graphics. The actual gameplay is still the same 12 year old stuff we had on PS1.

People on this site should know two things about me by now.

1. I have all three consoles.

2. I love the PS3 1000 fold over the other two.

This is not just some rant post from a hater. This is a serious concern from a huge fan of the series. It is for reasons like these that I don't give a crap about sales, besides knowing if a game made profit or not. Marketing and brand name can do a lot to sell something that has once been great, but has not done anything since that first innovative act.

So instead of trying to say people are out of touch, and trying to deffend that GT will sell 10M. Go spend some usefull time telling PD that enough is enough, and we are not buying the same game again. Tell the your fellow consumers not to be sheep, and go buy GT just because it is GT. Inform people that GT is not what it used to be, and that they should consider a little bit of reaserch before they just drop $65 on a game that could potentaly be just another Gran Turismo 1 with prettier graphics, and more cars, and the same old tracks.

Nice but wtf does that have to do with anything ?

If you want to make a thread how to improve GT please do so i got plenty opinions on that, but this thread has totally FuK all to do with anything from a purly game standpoint.

Who cares if I never said this one won't sell over time, I'm saying the PS3 install base will be lucky to ever even get to 60 million so there's not much hope in it reaching as high of sales.

Now this is exactly the type of foolishness regarding this whole thing i cant stand and have tried to do away with this thread.

Now Dude Halo3 hit 10m on a 30m user base it came out on a 12m user base, wtf makes you think GT5 wont do similar on PS3?  seeing how PS3 is already at 22 million should be close to 30 before GT5 is released.

What do you think PS3 has to sale for GT5 to pass lets say 10m, and why you think that ?

Are you saying PS3 user base wont grow over the next 2/3 years if so Why the hell you think that.

I think you completely missed what I was saying, kid.

Yes, GT4 released to the 60million userbase but that doesn't mean it sold all the copies day one (or even year one).  It worked its way up to its current amount and that's because the PS2 sold more than 100 million units.

There's this concept of legs and that game has them.

Don't forget that nobody buys the older version of the game once the new version is released ;).

Consoles Owned: Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Wii, XBOX360

everyone please stop saying userbase is a huge problem. a lot of ps3 games have outsold their ps2 predecessors.

Halo has a wider appeal to the typical 360 owner, GT does not.

The PS3 is not called the shooter box, the racer box, or whatever box because it has a wide variety of games.  Because it has such a wide variety of games, the user base is much more split.

The Xbox 360 was nicknamed the shooter box because it has a lot of shooters.  While it also has a large variety of games, shooters do well on the 360.  When it's the most popular shooter on the most popular genre of the console, it makes sense that it sells that huge of numbers.

Gran Turismo is a big franchise, but it is not the game that most every typical PS3 owner will run out and buy like Halo is.  Don't take this as a positive or negative on the GT or Halo franchise or quality of either game, that's just how it is.

Halo 3 is not a good proof, it proves that massive games on a system sell more when the system sells more.

See also, Mario Kart, SSBB, and SMG.

I think its foolish to assume any game will sell 10M copies, or that selling 10M is expected.

Why don't you anwser that ?

So a "demo" selling +3 million does not show you PS fanbse is rather hardcore about Gran Turismo, GT5P out selling Forza2 in Europe does not show you just how strong the connection between GT/PS still is ?

Because I don't care enough to put thought into it?  I only entered this thread to look at a report.

I guess I'll answer the second part.  I do think the PS3 install base will grow, but I don't think it's going to grow past 60 million.  Why?  I just don't, why are you so convinced it will?

A demo is one thing, we'll see when the actual game comes out.

GTA IV - 50% fewer sales than GTA III

Pro Evo 6 vs Pro evo 2009 - 50% fewer sales to the PS3 version

Guitar Hero III - 40% fewer sales to the PS3 version

Ratchet and Clank 1st respectively PS3/PS2 -> 50% fewer sales to the PS3 version.

Need for speed pro street? 25% fewer sales for the PS3 version.

Devil may Cry 3 vs 4? 40% fewer sales for the PS3 version.

The only 'exception' really is that MGS4 sold about as much as the last version on the PS2.

GT selling 15M on a system that hit over 120M was a great feat, but that was when it had no real competition.

When GT5 is released, it will be competing with Forza 3 (which will probably have been released before GT5) and be selling on a system with a much lower installed base than the PS2.

I'm guessing that without bundling, it'll do 4-5M sales. The GT series is losing steam. I have been through every GT made to 100% compeltion but I am at the point no that I don't even care if GT5 comes out. While I wait for that for what seems an eternity I played Forza 2 and now I see no reason at all to go back or remain excited for a game that doesn't exist yet.

Alot of the people that bought that $40 demo were more than a little dissapointed the game hadn' evolved in any way besides from a visual standpoint.

What part of GT3 was released on the PS2 with a 12 million userbase, but went on to sell 15 million....didn't you get?

Yeah, it released on a userbase of 12 million, but it took the total 100+ million to gradually work up to the 15 million it sold.

Or do you think every PS2 owner at the time bought it and then 1/4 of PS2 owners actually bought 2 copies?

No, I don't think it sold 15 million all at once, but by the same token, I doubt it needed the 100+ million userbase to get there, as GT4 was out by the time the PS2 got that high.

Here's the way I see it. If Halo 2 can do 8 million on a 25 million install base, Gran Turismo 5, on, being conservative, a 24 million userbase should be able to do more....it's freaking Gran Turismo for Christ's sake
