By the end of this gen, will the 360 be the fifth or fourth best selling home system of all time?

First of all, this is about home consoles, no handhelds included.

Right now, we have...PS2 is number 1, PS1 number 2, NES number 3, Wii number 4...Wii will probably become number 3 sometime this year.

So, by January next year the positions will be:

PS2

PS1

Wii

NES

SNES

The five best selling home systems of all time....now the 360 has passed the 30 million mark...it has passed the Xbox, GameCube, Saturn...this year it´ll pass the N64 and the Genesis.

Now, it´ll only need to beat the SNES (about 50 million) in order to become the 5th best selling home console.

I assume it will before this gen is over..my only doubt is if it´ll manage to beat the NES.

But anyway, assuming the PS3 finishes in 3rd place (which is looking extremely likely) and assuming it´ll manage to pass 50 million (which I think it will)  then yeah, in my opinion the 360 is bound to end up being the 5th best selling home console of all time.

If it can beat the NES, then it´s number 4...what do you think?

I think PS3 PS3 will beat 360.

Wii finishes this Gen 2nd, behind PS2.
PS3 finishes this gen with ~70million consoles, finishes this gen 4th overall.
360 i expect to do ~60million consoles, finishes either 5th or 6th overall.

PS2 > Wii > PS1 > PS3 > Xbox 360 is what I expect. So it'll be the 5th best selling, overtaking the NES & SNES.

I think it'll beat the SNES. Where it ends up on the # list...I am unsure.

wow nice thread.
I dont no what to think but i still think if Ps3 can drop the price then

ps2-ps1-wii-ps3-360

But it looks harder and harder for the ps3 everyday so who knows the 360 could be in 4th or 5th

it depends on when this generation ends, if this generation ends (at least for the 360) in 2012 then i say it will barely beat the snes...if it ends in 2011 it wont beat it

Well, I guess even if the 8th generation is introduced by the end of 2011, the 360 still has a chance at overtaking the SNES..if it can manage 40 million by March/April 2010, and 10 million more by March/April 2011, then it´s done.
