VC and Disgaea are not JRPGs.

I count them as JRPGs. I mean they are SRPGs and made in Japan, enough to make them JRPG to me.

SRPGs are really a more niche sub-genre originating from JRPG. I'd say they count.

If you can tell me an easily defined difference that keeps SRPGs from being a sub genre of JRPG then go right ahead.  But I don't think there is.

Now that I think of the differences, you could call Disgaea a JRPG in a way...
The main difference between the two as I see it, is extremely different combat systems and lack of free roaming in SRPG's (which Disgaea has).

Hmm, if they are, then that mean Final Fantasy Tactics makes my list at number 4....to much of a hassle to change it now

You can freely roam battle fields in Valkyria.  It is very hard to define a genre by the ability to free roam because you then have to set how much free roaming there is.  Personally, I see JRPG as the main genre of RPG's that come from Japan and usually have a more linear flow to their storyline, and SRPG's are a sub genre of either J or WRPG depending on the style.  It's a certain battle system, but to me that doesn't discount it as a JRPG, just as Action RPG's are still JRPG's.

Roam the battlefield, but not the game world :P

Sure ARPG's are also different, but theres much less micromanagement there, wouldn't you say?
