Yeah...motive is to get PSP awareness back in the West. Because PSP sales are just bad over here.

Well, they own 9% of SE but they can't do anything...I guess it's better than to let it go. I think they get a (VERY SMALL) portion of SE revenue though. But 9% isn't enough to influence games.

Yeah, their just the third highest stockholder in the company. Complete small frys.

I wonder if Nintendo will ever do something like this with some 3rd party games. I doubt it, since NoA doesn't even advertise their own games. But they should start advertising and helping 3rd parties, and stop thinking so much about themselves, because at the end they will be benefited as well.

A marketing push for games like LKS, rune Factory Frontier, etc would have been great, at least a mention or something at a conference. No wonder third parties like Sony, at least they are given the chance to become known.

I've had this argument before...

Why does 3rd highest or whatever matter? What if someone was the 3rd highest in another company but owned only 0.03% of them for example?

That number shouldn't matter at all...percents should. And they don't have a big enough percent to influence anything, otherwise so many series wouldn't have jump to other systems.

Because size is relative. 9% is a very large part of SE's revenue due to the fact that they the 3rd highest out of all stockholders. I'm not saying they choose where the games go, but don't undermine it.

They have zero power.

The 1st, 2nd, and 4th biggest stockholders are all really one guy.  The former Enix boss.

Also they don't have 9%.  They had less then that after the merger.  Plus SE just took over Eidos.

I gotta think there was stock involved in that deal.

Hard to find info though do to the general stupidness of the internet with 5 million blogposts stating "SE and Eidos agree to terms!"  Without linking to the terms and using other blog posts that say the same thing as a source.

I hate blogs sometimes.  Everyone with a myspace and who has mastered copy and paste thinks they're a journalist.

Where'd I say they have power? I'm saying that they make a lot more than a "VERY SMALL" portion.

I'd still disagree really.

Afterall profits go back into the buisness they aren't paid out in dividends.

Only way Sony profits off it is if they sell the stock.  Which isn't likely to happen unless the stock hits hard times, or the company hits hard times.

Oh. Actually if i'm looking at this right... SE is now two companies...

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=70491&page=2

Square Enix Holdings (The one Sony owns stock in) and Square Enix Co.

Interesting. I assume SE Co is owned by SEH Co, but SEH co doesn't seem to profit from SE Co... except from it's stock divedends and "Management fees".

I don't understand the point of that honestly. Still it basically cancels out any control anyone but the board would have on the games buisness.

Oh come on, Wada isn't THAT nice.

Needs moar Light Yagami.

Oh come on. I'm just reminding everyone of Valkyria's existence.

Besides, my picture has better image quality.
