Forums - Nintendo - Now we have SD support - is it time the Wii had a demo channel?

This years E3 is only around the corner and with the recent SD card support my only hardware problem with my beloved little white box has been resolved but with games like Madworld and Little kings story proving that new IP's with internet advertising alone are finding it difficult to get their games known.

Anyone think Nintendo will have acknowledged this and may be planning to use the Sd support as a springboard to give third parties a helping hand here - after all what better way to advertise your games, get people online (as it's reported they have a campaign planned to raise online awareness - http://gonintendo.com/?p=80025 ) and give a playable demo to the people that are actually core gamers and have their console online already.

For me it's a no brainer and I think surely it must be high up their agenda these days if they want to boost wii software support to a higher level.

Anyone think there's any chance of this or anything like this getting unveiled at E3 or anytime soon?

God i hope so.

Though i wonder what the size limit for demo's will be. After all the Wii's SD card support involves games being stored on the SD card and then temporarily copied to the Wii's internal flash memory when you play the game.

So im guessing demo's would be capped at 100mb - 200mb...

I don't think it's a big problem. The RE5 demo was 473 MB on the 360, with HD content, two playable levels and cutscenes.

thats a valid point, guess this is one of the reasons why they haven't done it yet.

They need to do it though and fast as this definetly boosts HD consoles sales, if not then approach IGN, Nintendo power or somebody to have an online Wii channel that demos games and contains video reviews etc where third parties can contact a source directly to get approved content uploaded frequently.

On another note, I don't see why demos wouldn't be able to run from the SD card directly. That didn't happen with the current SD channel because it was probably easier and more reliable to run games from the internal memory as they were designed to run.

This concern won't exist for a potential demo channel, demos could be designed to run from the SD card from the start. Of course people would have to use decent SD cards, not the extremely slow ones.

This would be great, but I don't think we will get that anytime soon.

I sure hope I'm wrong though.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe with an addition option to people stating that if they did clear say 100mb of space on their HDD then they'd get a better performance, developers could develop the demo to ensure that the content they release has no loading cut scenes or anything and it only contains fluent gameplay to keep loading times to a minimum.

I just cant help but feel the play online campaign is designed for something bigger than to give wii ware, vc and onine titles a push.  I reckon they have something up their sleeve as since the Wii launch - their intent was to gain third party support and for me this is one of the remaining hurdles left to clear.

They acknowledged the storage problem and resolved it now they cant help but acknowlege this problem also.
