Forums - Nintendo - Capcom tells why no Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 on wii

All VC Games are emulations. Each game comes packaged with an emulator when you buy it, but from what others have posted (in other threads) it looks like it only saves the Emulator if no previous games came with a compatible emulator.

If they made this for Wii it would have to be WiiWare, and as he says, it would never fit the 40MB file limit. Although, from what I understand the 40MB limit is not a hard limit due to space, but rather because Nintendo thinks that people will have to wait too long for it to download.

Even if they removed the limit, I'm going to think this game is at least 300MB which is awfully big for a Wii download title even with a SD card.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is 128MB. I'd post verification but I don't want to support piracy.

cool I was just guessing based on what systems it had been out on. 128MB is still rather large considering it would be 1/4th of the internal storage on the system.

With use of a standard 1 gig SD card, it would be like Madden on the PS2, taking up 1/8 of thememory card.

I think Capcom has a valid reason though. I just don't see why 40MB is still the limit, especially now.

I may be wrong, but before a game launches doesn't it copy itself off the SD card first on to internal memory? So even if you have 100MB game on your SD card, it has to have 100MB free on the Wii itself.

Makes sense, Nintendo has no service to facilitate for large games, it was designed for Legacy titles and Indy developers.

I have a feeling that even if there were no such limit/limitations that Capcom would not be doing this on the Wii.

First, it does not really care for the Wii and seems to have titles on the PS3/Xbox 360 that sell. In other words, they appear one of the few developers that consistently can make money off of going for the HD consoles. Street Fighter and Resident Evil sequels let you do that.

Second, if it can figure a way to release TvC (or some variant thereof) in other markets, it does not want to do something that cannibalizes potential future sales.

@mike

TvC does not a MvC2 make.

The games are as completely different as 2d is to 3d with that they share the similarities found in any fighter that would imply fighting to reach a victory.

despite Capcom shortchanging the Wii multiple times, they still have supported the system fairly well. In fact, I just checked their press site and Resident Evil 3 is listed as a Wii game. No information provided, but it looks like they are remaking their entire back catalog of Resident Evil games.

So it looks like capcom has given us

2 new RE light gun shooters
Spyborgs - which looks like a very good effort put in even if I'm not interested
Entire remake of Resident Evil series (4 out, 1 out soon, 0 out in japan and coming to US, and 3 is listed on their press site)
Zack & Wiki
Monster Hunter 3

plus more, so they actually haven't been too shabby in the Wii support department.

marvel vs capcom is ancient now. I remember playing the original game in 1996. Of course, Im one of those purists for fighters, that they're best enjoyed as an arcade.

@bardicverse

Your not a purist, they really are better off on Arcades.
