@light---yeah I can see your side, which mean you should be able to see mine, I am not saying making the main character will instantly make the game bad, it just wont be my cup of tea as much b/c I tend to play games to get away from reality and become some one else,

Its like when I was little reading adventure books, I did it as an escape and an adventure, the same now applies to my video games

I know I will never be a 300 lb piece or rock in armor wielding a sweet chain saw gun but I can pretend I am and b/c it’s a guy I can relate better

I know I will never be a sweet space engineer forced into a life and death situation while I try to track down my old girlfriend…but its easy to pretend I am

But if you change it up to me being a gay space engineer I have more trouble doing that b/c ..well I am not gay and really wouldn’t want to stick my neck out for a guy…..maybe if it was my brother

Its like I said, changing character models shouldn’t be hard simple leave the story alone and swap out your main choice

If your going to be crashing threw the forest in search of your love give the option to pick a girl main character or a guy main character and the same for your love

I mean with the size of blu surely you could have two sets of voice tracks and two sets of character models for the main people right?

No, i understand your side as well, and i'm glad you understand mine. I actually like your idea about having the option to choose who you save. I think that will be the way it goes in the future. But i'm glad you said that, it makes more sense, everyone should have to option to go after who represents them more.

That's how it was in Jade Empire you got to flirt with what sex you wanted to.

and fable 2 as well

Here is how it can easily be done:

You make a game, with a badass male character. You make him the most badass guy in the universe. He's buff, he's smart, he's fast, he's got mad skills. Even throw in some girls who are all over him. But have him constantly refer to his "lover" instead of his "girlfriend" or "princess." That way everybody can identify with his quest, because we'll all assume the gender of the lover is the gender we're attracted to. Then at the end of the game, once you've beaten the final boss, BLAM, you just saved a dude. It worked for Samus. Everybody thought they were a badass male bounty hunter saving the galaxy and then BLAM, you're in a bikini for no reason. And by that point, you were so attached to the character, that Nintendo got away with it, and Samus has become one of the most beloved female protagonists in gaming. I think the same could be done for a gay protagonist.

EDIT: Now I read the thread, and crap, axumblade beat me to it.

I have no problems with homosexuals in real life, so why would I have any in a videogame ?

I don't remember wich character is gay in Deus Ex, could somebody remind me who it was ? thanks

I just remember hearing it, but I think there are two lesbians in it.

It will never work to trick people like that

Samus got away with it b/c the majority of the crowd was horny straight males, they saw chic in bikini and would let it slid

If it were a gay dude…epic firestorm and the game would have sales dry up among the crowd you were targeting (however the gay gamer community would grab the game with open arms)

But the group your trying to trick into it would rebel on a massive scale

Plus with the available amount of info in the net these days something that epic would never stay secret

But seriously, the main character can be whatever they want, as long as the story and the characters are decent then it really doesn't matter to me.

BTW, you forgot about The Sims (I don't know if that counts though..)

Also, I sometimes wonder if Rita from ToV is a lesbian or if she just really admires Estelle...I don't know because I need to continue to play the game.

I have a question for you, what would you do if Cole (That's his name right form inFAMOUS) if his ex-girlfriend was his ex-boyfriend?

The gameplay would be the same the rest of the story line would be the same, but that little detail is different.

There are people who to this day see Brawl and go "Whoa, Samus was a chick all along?"

Nobody's done it before, so there's a vacuum to fill.  The first company to fill that vacuum with a game that isn't really stupid will get a whole bunch of money.  And the controversy would help sales like it was a Hot Coffee mod.

I'd play any game with a gay protagonist.  I want more diversity in my protagonists.  I want to play as more old people, women, gays, babies, and inanimate objects.
