People like me can't even read threads like this because people who either A: Don't listen to the music, or B: Don't know anything about the artist(s), or C: don't understand the culture behind it - just aggravate you.
I've read a handful of comments that sound like people are just saying what everyone else said about the artists at the time. How many people talking about Tupac's poetry actually read his book, and further did you know theres actually college courses based on it? How many people know about the beginnings of the relationship between the two (B.I.G. and Tupac)? Cuz if you did, you'd say Biggie and Tupac in the complete sense of things refers a lot more closely to Sony and Nintendo. These are probably the same people who watched the B.I.G. movie and assume everything in it is fact. These are the same people who assume they know everything about the whole east coast west coast beef because they watched MTV News.
I hate when this particular genre is brought up around video games because the majority of video game players don't listen to it, and the majority of those who don't listen to it, don't respect it or any of the artists. Especially because it's the only genre I'm really into.
The analogies, even though I think they're inappropriate anyway, aren't very good to begin with. Kantor's post inparticular makes me cringe my teeth, referring to the Wii as Soulja Boy. Do you guys really know anything behind the scenes about rap/hip-hop, or do you just hear the music?
If I'm comparing 360 and PS3 to rappers, I'm going to compare them to 50 Cent and Rick Ross. They have beef, ones bigger than the other, but no one is down for the count. How many of you actually knew they had beef? I'll guess maybe half, if that, and go on to say exactly how deep that beef goes - 50 Cent flew Rick Ross's baby's mama to New York and took her shopping just to get her to talk shit about Rick Ross and piss him off on national radio (Shade45, Sirius XM satellite radio, owned by Eminem).
As much as I tend to disagree with Garnet's posts, I'm pretty sure if he was here he might back me up a little=P He seems to be almost as into the hip-hop genre of music as I am.
