Forums - Gaming Discussion - A question Ive always wanted to know the answer to?

america is a much freer market economy. when it comes to innovation and putting technology into practical use, america is absolutely the place to be, there is no competition. that's why the techs and and all the startups are flourishing in the US and not japan.

Not true. The US has some decent innovation - our universities are world-class - but the rest of our school system has been budget-cut into oblivion. Japan, Korea, and Central Europe invest more into science and R & D as a percent of their economy, and China and Russia are catching up fast. That's why Nokia clobbered Motorola and Toyota stomped GM. It's noticeable in other ways, too - US broadband access sucks, and our cellphone networks are pathetic compared to East Asia or the EU. That's going to bite the US videogame industry very, very hard in the future, because other countries are increasingly going to have forms of mass gaming US consumers won't be able to access.

This question is mainly aimed to the lovely people of america.

Japan has spent countless years rejecting your products with no regard to whether it being they are good or not. ( look at the past 7 years of game sales. )

They only buy products which are made in their own country. Which effectively is a big 2 fingers to the american industry.

So could someone please tell me why some americans do the same and support japanese consoles more than those made in there own backyard?

The Japanese prefer a very specific styling of game that the US companies typically do not create. They also prefer tight play control over graphics. And of course things insanely cute to the point of nauseating.

With consoles, it's a similar issue. Most games on the 'American console' are not catered to the Japanese audience.

American gamers are more diverse overall and there's 3 times as many of us as theire are Japanese too. Given that, we're willing to play a game sconsole that provides that diversity which the 'Japanese consoles' do very well.

But even though at the time this is posted the 360 has much more diverse games available over a multitude of genres than the PS3 people still back the japanese industry and cuss there own?

Did you notice I said it was the US market that prefers that kind fo diversity?

The X360 simply does not cater enough to the Japanese market.   Take a look at a Japanese release list of the 3 and the difference is absolutely huge.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Everything Fonzerelli said and add the ipod.

This whole Japanese hate American stuff is BS and MS fans are just using it to make excuses for the 360's performance in Japan.

The way 360 is doing in Japan has more to do with how the first console was perceived and it rubbing off on the 360, the 360 is doing better than the first Xbox there so there is progress.

The more Japan centric games come to Xbox systems, the more Japanese will buy Xboxes, it's simple.

Sony and Nintendo have been it a lot longer and thus have much better reputation there among gamers, not to mention the support of SE with the likes of FF and DQ games among many other Japanese developed games...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I wonder if the next big Final Fantasy (or any other huge Japanese game) were to be an Xbox360 exclusive, would it sell well in Japan? If not, then they are truly stubborn.

Well, they have the guy who created FF making exclusive JRPGS to the 360, while it helped, didnt pierce their stubborness ~-~

BD got a really high score too... 36 or 37 /40

If the games were FF or DQ quality they would have done better... just look at the reviews over here in the US.

Im not on about that. It's about Americans hating there own products. Even when in America 360 far outclasses ps3 at the moment.
