Not true. The US has some decent innovation - our universities are world-class - but the rest of our school system has been budget-cut into oblivion. Japan, Korea, and Central Europe invest more into science and R & D as a percent of their economy, and China and Russia are catching up fast. That's why Nokia clobbered Motorola and Toyota stomped GM. It's noticeable in other ways, too - US broadband access sucks, and our cellphone networks are pathetic compared to East Asia or the EU. That's going to bite the US videogame industry very, very hard in the future, because other countries are increasingly going to have forms of mass gaming US consumers won't be able to access.
