If this is true, doesn't it essentially eliminate Blu-Ray?

Not really. Bluray could enjoy a long and productive life before this product is available to the mass market at reasonable prices.

What they don't touch on is read/write speed. A 100x increase in capacity isn't so hot if you can't pull the data off any faster than a DVD. Certain flash technologies look like they might offer similar storage at blazing speeds and prices which are low enough.

famous - The technique used to read/write HVD storage is much faster than a DVD, but not exponentially faster in the increase of size.

The typical technique involves using multiple lasers, and blending their light(s) together to access certain areas of a holodisk, as opposed to reading on the mere surface. Since the player has multiple lasers, it increases the actual speed of reading the material, from my understanding.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
