Forums - Sales - Serious thread, what is happeneing to the Wii?

Before you start shouting DOOOM THREAD! no! it isn't, I have never believed the Wii is doomed and I don't think it is now either. However its decline in sales has been pretty big, In a few weeks it could be below 100k in both America & Others and that would be a first right?

I don't think its supply issues as its been a steady decline but hey I could be wrong, is it time for Nintendo to step in and raise sales?

And yes the Wii is still beating the PS360 but their is potential for Nintendo to sell more Wii's so they should (probably will) take it.

Serious thread is serious

[makes serious face]

..ohh noz, for srsly!? ...

In all seriousness though =P

There has been a noticeable downward slide across a lot of industries including the gaming industry since early-mid March. Consumer confidence in general is on the decline and people are hedging both in business and personal finances. Could conceivably be something else driving the trend for the Wii specifically but that is definitely a part of it.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Wii supply has finally met demand. It's normal for the initial demand to be higher and then for sales to drop off. It's not normal for how long it too the wii...

That combined with worse new releases the last 5 months then any other 5 month period for the Wii, and it's not too surprising. Starting in June, things are looking very good software wise.

No "big" game worth purchasing has been released since November for the Wii, summer months are typically slower than the fall/winter, and toss on economy concerns. Sure there have been purchase worthy games, but none of them are quick million sellers like Animal Crossing or Guitar Hero (other than the expansion game).

ExciteBots and/or Punch-Out!! could surprise everyone and be the next really big game, but I think we'll have to wait until June with WM+ for the Wii to go gangbusters again like it did with Mario Kart and Wii Fit.

There is your answer.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

A combination of several things

The fact that this has happened in every Feb-May of the Wiis life. It is very much up YoY

The release of the DSi, many high profile DS games and the price cut of the PS2 may have temporarily distracted people

A temporary lack of high profile Wii games, and a temporary period of big PS360 releases

Wii is doomedz!!

huh? for 3 years wii have been selling like hotcakes without even single price drop, new color or any uber hyped title. no wonder it's slowing down a little since it's starting to meet demand.
it'll sell better then ps360 every week though until price drop/new color when wii will simply destroy hd twins.

Thanks everyone, yeah true Nordlead no games have come out in a long while, I didn't think games pushed the Wii that much past the hardcore Nintendo fanbase though?

@ Sqrl, I guess I never thought the recession would affect the gaming industry, maybe now its just kicking in.

no games have come out for a long long time combined with it may have met its demand level currently.

i love my wii for the homebrew channel, but i hope some good titles are released this year.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Lack of big new games played a part, especially in Japan, but it's probably less important for the extended audience than for the typical vgchartz forum dwellers, after all the extended audience mostly buys "evergreens".

On the other hand the same extended audience probably was more sensible to the economic downturn, as they will likely hold the Wii in a lower priority in their needs than more traditional console gamers.

yea its weird. Well the only people who really know whats happening will say so on the 7th, until then ill blame the economic downturn and the lack of Wii Sports / Fit / MK / SMG / SSBB hype.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
