Get Gears of War and Gears of War 2. If you like shooters you'll probably love them. Great games, no doubt. Especially if you've got a buddy to play co-op with, loads of fun :)

Oh, and also... If you're interested in RPGs too... If you want JRPGs, I strongly recommend Lost Odyssey. If you're into WRPGs (which you seem to be due to Mass Effect), I've heard a lot of good things about Fable 2, so you might wanna check that out. Though you probably already plan to do so.
