PS3 is winning 1 of those categories atm and that's FPS. You can't really put PS3 down for racing yet since it's only have GT5:Prolouge while 360 and Wii have actually had a full game, Forza 2 or Mario Kart Wii.

You really believe that don't you, I guess the beauty of opinion is everybody is entitled to one.  Personally speaking it's not even close in the FPS category, Halo 3 and Left 4 Dead alone push the 360 ahead imo.  If we're making lists right now then I'm sorry but you have to go off what is released.

For the record the PS3 has Grid, Burnout Paradise, F1 and many other full racing games, they're not all exclusive but the 360 has that wrapped up until GT5 in most peoples eyes.  For sheer vairety the 360 has Forza 2, PGR 3&4 and Race Pro so GT5 must be immense to win the category (it's not hard to believe it will be though).

OKAY, this writer is fucking stupid. Left 4 Dead is a shooter.. For platformers the xbox has kameo and banjo (vastly outstripping the ps3s selection by 2:1.

For Races it's GT5.. Vs PGR 3&4 and Forza 2.... I think PGR is better than forza anyway. Again, ps3 selection is outnumbered 3:1.

The ps3 does beat the xbox when it comes to acti/venture though. Crackdown and a few others (like GTAIV:L&D) can't stand against the 5 titles sony has in that genre.

FPS is clearly xbox territory.. Resistance 1+2 and killzone 2 cannot beat Left4Dead, Halo 3, and GoW 1&2. Then there are the minor exclusives (frontlines, CoD2, PDZ)

RPG: This tool of a writer doesn't even mention WRPG's.. Where the xbox is leading the ps3 by 2:0. JRPG's is a more complicated mess though, with ps3 getting a couple exclusives, the xbox getting about 5 more thsan it has... But half of those end up being multiplatform in the end.

Off topic: Isn't quantam theory a WRPG?

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Gotta love this part:

Platformer: Eh, this isn't the huge genre it once was, but all I've got to say is that right now, it begins and ends with LittleBigPlanet. Not much else to talk about.

And here I was, thinking that one of the best ranked games of all time was Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii... Not much else to talk about indeed.

Even if the Wii doesn't exist for this little article, the 360 still has Braid which still beats out Little Big Planet.  LBP is an average platformer with a decent level editor and a great art style.  Braid is a near perfect platformer with a great art style (and music).

I want to see SMG remake Contra, classic Super Mario, classic Sonic, and just about anything (emphasizing ANYTHING) else......until then, by your comparison, we know who the "average" platformer is.

And calling the level editor "decent" is undermining as well. Forge is a "decent" level editor. LBP is astonishing

  • Action Adventure (Wii) --Zelda, Metroid Prime, Okami, MadWorld, No More Heroes, Zack & Wiki, etc. definitely give the Wii the uncontested lead in this genre at the moment.  God of War 3 will be great, but there aren't enough big games in this genre on PS3 or 360 to compete right now. Maybe when BG&E2 comes out we can mention the PS3 and 360 in competition for this genre, but as it stands, they lose badly.
  • Platformer (Wii/PS3) -- Super Mario Galaxy is definitely where platforming begins and ends this gen. If you want to go further though we have de Blob, Super Paper Mario, and Wario Land. LittleBigPlanet is great however, and so is Ratchet. Between these two the PS3 manages to hold its own in this genre (and yes, Kameo and Banjo suck on 360, and Braid is a great puzzle game but a crappy platformer. Deal with it).
  • Racing (PS3) -- As much as I love Mario Kart, I'm giving this to PS3. The Wii needs more than that to compete. The PS3 has GT5 which is still the standard in sim racing, Motorstorm for arcady fun, and the great multiplatform ones like GRiD. I do think Wii could compete someday, but right now, it doesn't.
  • Fighting (Wii) -- For once a single game is enough to win a category. Brawl outsells every fighting game's combined sales between PS3 and 360. Whether you like the style or not, it's the most perfectly crafted fighting game in existence, with a level of content also greater than all other fighting games combined. The content in Street Fighter IV is like a minigame of Brawl.
  • Shooter (360) -- Since you specified consoles in the OP, I'm letting 360 have this. If not, it would easily go to PC, but as it is the 360 has a much wider and more diverse selection of shooters, both first and third person, than PS3. Uncharted and Killzone 2 are great, but the PS3 needs more to compete. At the moment, this is the 360's genre.
  • WRPG (360) -- Basically the same as above. This would easily go to PC in most circumstances, but as a console topic the 360 wins here. It's got games the PS3 doesn't have, and the PS3 doesn't have any that it doesn't have. It's as simple as that.
  • JRPG (DS) -- Uncontested, not even debatable, JRPG champ of this generation is the Nintendo DS. If you really want to ignore handhelds, then the 360 is in the lead with the PS3 and Wii about equal so far.  The 360 is getting some big name games that didn't turn out so hot, but some great classic style JRPGs. The PS3 is getting all the best Strategy JRPGs, and has some solid stuff in the pipeline. The Wii is getting everything unique and different from Rune Factory to Muramasa. This title may surprisingly fall to Wii eventually.
  • Strategy (PS3/DS/PSP) -- I'm giving the PS3 the tie this one due to the incredible strategy game Valkyria Chronicles and the very good Disgaea 3, but overall the DS and PSP are really the winners here. Advance Wars, FF Tactics, FF Tactics Advance, Jeanne D'Arc, Revenant Wings, etc. The list of complex and great strategy games on the handheld consoles is almost endless.
  • Puzzle (DS/PSP) -- What did you really expect? Braid to win? lol. Yeah, Braid and World of Goo are good fun, but I don't think I really need to explain why the DS and PSP win out here (<3 Crush).

Conclusions: Actually for me this gen is pretty well divided. I'm glad I own all game systems, because I would be missing some of the best games of at least 1 genre if I were missing any of them.
