In the NES and SNES era the big genre was platformers.

In the ps1 era there were RPGs.

last gen it was... RPGs/Adventure games? (Not really sure)

And this gen, the big Genre is definitely TPS/FPS.

I think every generation there are Genres that are dominant. So, what Genre would be the next one? Do you even think there are dominant Genres in gaming?

Most likely openworld/sandbox-style stuff. I mean, we're seeing a high amount of diversity in this genre already, with GTA, Saint's Row, Crackdown, Oblivion, Fallout--heck, even Burnout Paradise is an open-world game.
