The PS3 maybe considered a failure compared to past success. However Sony is still a very popular and they will have learned from the past with the PS4.

I don't because it's to early to tell. Ps3 is only out for 2 1/2 years. 2 years for Europe? They may have suffer losses but that can change in the future. They still have 3 1/2 years. They release console every six years. That's been their trend when releasing new console. They have a lot of time to make PS3 profitable. Take note that Sony are not stupid to pull out a major division in their company. All they have to do is revise their strategy. Make a healthy software line-up, reduce the cost of the PS3 and make profit for every system. They are multi national company, people that work there are professional. They wil not quit because they lose this generation. Did that made Microsoft and nintendo quit?

The wishfulness of an xbox fanboy who doesn't realise that if it was to come to pass that the PS3 was the last Sony console, the whole scene would suffer.
assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

Sony could pull a Sega and remain in the console race. Unlike Sony, Sega made their own IP's like Nintendo and never used videogames solely because they were getting their asses whipped by other electronics companies. Sega wasn't a multi-billion dollar corporation. Sega still lives, still creates games and this shows you who they are. If Sony dropped out of the console race....they wouldn't be making any games for you. Sony is a multi-billion dollar conglomerate.....how the hell are you going to compare them to Sony?

How many times do I have to tell you people that Sony didn't learn a thing? They knew they weren't going to be in first because they sacrificed the PS3 for Blu Ray. Sony even said it at the beginning of the gen when they told everyone about the price. Do you think they were innocent in all of this? Fuck...lol.
STAGE, if the PS3 had launched at $300, no Blu-Ray and no delay in the European release, what do you think its worldwide sales numbers would be right now, if you can give a rough guess?

$300 right out the gate? It would probably be somewhere near the range of 37-42 million consoles sold WW with only one price drop in the third year. Why?

I'd say the opposite was true. Sony were so sure the PS3 was going to win they put BR in to try for a double win with both the console and the format. I doubt they figured PS3 would fail so stick in BR anyway - what would be the point of that? You wouldn't imagine it would ensure BR victory in the format war, would you?
I believe they figured Nintendo had no chance after the Gamecube and saw MS as a threat to head of by pushing out a high spec console to match their approach - i.e. they'd get the traditional audience plus steal the audience MS was growing with the Xbox/Live.
Instead they got caught both ways - Nintendo came out the traps like gangbusters and the delay to market for PS3 let the 360 grab a vital lead in US/UK market with the shooter/online crowd.
Doesn't mean they won't learn their lesson for a PS4 though - at the end of the day, whatever people say, you don't end up with the sales of PS1/PS2 by accident or because you don't know what you're doing.
In some ways I feel it's MS who still have the most to prove - they've shown steady growth since the first Xbox launched, but never a real surge that indicates they could reach PS1/PS2/Wii heights of HW sales. Of course, if they can keep the growth pattern strong then while this gen they won't be first they could have a shot the following gen.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
