Wait...that wasn't the point of this thread?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

lol, no.

Sony isn't going to pull a Sega.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

Why dont all three come together and make a console?

"Like you know"

No.

Are you serious. Playstation, nomatter what you want to believe is an amazingly strong brand name. What other console brand do you know could that could easily sell 21M units without ever getting lower than $399 and launching at $600. Exactly.

The Playstation brand has sold like 300M consoles worlwide, everyone knows what a Playstation is and Sony aren't going to destroy that.

I dont even know why I wrote that, you'l probably just ignore my post and dwell on the posts that agree with you.

Playstation WAS a strong brand before the launch of the ps3....it is losing market share and sales every day, while simultaneously losing money.  The worst combination imaginable for sony.

The future for sony in gaming looks very shaky at best.

Don't fool yourself, sony is not a charity for gamers - Sony will destroy the playstation gaming division without a second thought if doesn't become profitable soon.

21 million is console sales is PATHETIC considering its predecessor's sales.

The ps3 costs so much because it is supposed to have more value and more worth, appearently MOST gamers DO NOT think it is worth the price......and sales prove this without a doubt.

Sony messed up BIG TIME & if microsoft would have BRIBED WARNER BROS 500 million to back hd-dvd exclusively, sony would be out of the gaming business a long time ago.

Also, imho, the Xbox 1 was a pretty significant success. It was a completely new brand on the market and managed to beat the Gamecube from Nintendo, a long time market vet, and paved the way for the 360.

It also gave us games like Halo and KoToR which are now part of the gaming culture. Those games might have been made anyway, but without MS, maybe they wouldn't.

Either way, for a rookie console, frankly the Xbox was a significant success. It introduced the brand name and gained significant recognition for its successor worldwide. It also taught Microsoft enough about the industry to be where they are at today. In the big 3.

When I say it was a failure, i mean so in the profit making sense, which is what companies are looking to make.

and I'm going to have to go with Sephiroth on this one, he's probably right.

Oh, I see. So, the PS3 is one of the largest failures in gaming history then, by those standard, and every Nintendo console has been a resounding success and indeed the only consistant success in the gaming industry.

The original Xbox was meant to introduce the brand. It was always going to lose money. It probably lost a little more than it should have due to a few poor business decisions, but nothing approaching the poor business decisions Sony has made this gen.

It's fine to call the original Xbox a failure, but by those strict standards, if the PS3 started selling like crack tomorrow, it could never dig itself out of the hole its in, because you would be comparing it to its predecessor, or strictly from a profit standpoint.

As for Sephiroth, lol, I didn't read his post, I just read someone claim that the original Xbox was a "failure" and it really wasn't.

I realize you're just trying to be an ass, but that's still a pretty bold statement to make. You do realize there were more than 2 generations of consoles right?

Fine Name a companies console which won the previous gen with 70% market share only to lose the next gen of consoles with less than 25% and lossing tons of money and all the profit of the previous gen???

People have no idea what a bad time for a console is. People look at sales this gen and if something is behind, apparently it's either losing money or there "won't" be another console next gen by them. By that idea, nintendo should of left after 64, microsoft at xbox, etc etc etc.

People fail to realize, PS3 sold as many units as xbox did, and almost as many as GC did, in 1/3rd the time. Without their major price drop yet. You know the power of a brand like that? People want the PS3, PS2 owners want it, they want to adopt, but won't due to price.

People (sony fanboys) fail to realize the PS3 HAS NEVER MADE A PROFIT & HAS COST SONY MORE THAN 3.3 BILLION DOLLARS & WASTED ALL THE PS2 PROFITS.....similar to xbox.

ALSO, PS3 had the largest price drop in the history of consoles going from $599 to $399 in LESS THAN A YEAR!!!

Why should I? I clearly stated this was profit based. How does current, or previous market share come into play?
