There are confirmed cases in my county. People wore surgical masks to school today. A bit much?

First of all, I havent even heard if this strain has been correctly characterised yet.

Secondly, what the hell are these if they are not epidemiological? case studies? medical analysis? or are these just reports form the news?

EDIT: in reference to the above numbers.

What do you mean they haven't characterized it yet?  They know it is a H1N1 strain of influenza.  Other clasifications are imposible because we really have no idea how to genetic material and characterize it basd on the genetic information.

First of all Look up retrovirus and rota virus, then look up PCR, genetic sequencing and karyotyping for the basics.

Also have you ever heard of anything similar to genebank? Many pathogenic species have been charactirised quite well and i am pretty sure that many virus types have too.

H1N1 just stands for the hemagluttanin variant and the neostigmine variant. the strain number and the virus type/letter are also important too.

Basically what you are saying is that clinicians all over the world are 'guessing' as to what is causing this.

All I was stating is that you have to be certain of the information that you have been told is correct.

The media tends to be highly inaccurate with regards to medical reports.

Endure. In enduring, grow strong.

What happens if a pandemic is declared as my A-level exams begin? would they all be delayed or what?

^ Journalists have moved on, theres another huge tragedy happening somewhere else in the world this week?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
