isn't the one death in the U.S. from the article that was posted in here where the person came from Mexico for medical treatment and died? Or is this a different case? if it is the same one, then the U.S. should count as 0.

EDIT: looked it up. the only death within the U.S. was an import from Mexico.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I kind of doubt that at this point in time we should be concerned with statistical inconsistencies.  If the expected thing happens, this statistical anomaly will not be a big concern.

First of all, I havent even heard if this strain has been correctly characterised yet.

Secondly, what the hell are these if they are not epidemiological? case studies? medical analysis? or are these just reports form the news?

EDIT: in reference to the above numbers.

Endure. In enduring, grow strong.

What do you mean they haven't characterized it yet?  They know it is a H1N1 strain of influenza.  Other clasifications are imposible because we really have no idea how to genetic material and characterize it basd on the genetic information.

I'm not even remotely close to worried. It's just the stupid fucking media creating panic for ratings. It's disgusting.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

The swine flu is as harmless as the regular flu. The only people who are dying are the people who are not treating it. or the people that cant afford to treat it like the mexicans. Oh and the one person that died in texas was a mexican infant. The swine flu is noteven as harmful as the regular flu.

"The strain in most cases causes only mild symptoms and the infected person makes a full recovery without requiring medical attention and without the use of antibiotics "

This hype over nothing needs to stop.

36,000 people die each year from the regular flu in america alone. This is something more to be worried about.

Pretty much if you feel sick go to the doctors and get antibiotics and you will be fine. If you dont you still probably be fine

Yeah it's not a big deal AT ALL.

Did you see the new Daily Show about the panic?

Fox is calling it a pandemic every 5 seconds, and then to one-up them, somebody else suggested swine flu might be "a biological terrorist attack," and then CNN said "MILLIONS OF PEOPLE COULD DIE!!!"  It's so fucking fake and hilarious.  I hate all news.

And I have a sister in Mexico City, in the middle of the panic.  Poor sucker.

So how does antibiotics help you get over a flu virus?

This flu outbreak (if initial numbers are correct), the death rate is ~2.4% (or closer to 5%).  Now the (more) common flu virus has a death rate of <0.1%, so not the same (a quick math calc shows the worldwide death toll could easily reach 150 million with the low death toll estimate).  Another real concern that is possible is that the genetic material that caused death in the spanish flu outbreak is probably still present in birds, and if a serious uncontrolled outbreak occurs (I'm expecting class 6 WHO pandemic by Monday), it would be very easy for Human/Bird H1N1 influenza viruses sharing genetic material, thus putting the chances of multiple human H1N1 influenza strains with human infecting characteristic.

Panicking is never the right thing to do, but concern for your fellow man should be a very serious concern, especially if the someone told you over the next few years the death toll could easily top out closer to 300 million.
