Braid, Bully, Professor Layton

-edit-

Other possible ones-- Sam and Max, Mercury Meltdown Revolution, Boom Blox, Little Big Planet, SSX Tricky (or any of the SSX games), Katamari Damacy

In Braid, you basically "kill" the little enemies you find, and they do get hit by fireballs and whatnot. :P Or do you have some other explanation that makes them not die?

Also, snowboarding is a sport!

Doh, forgot you kill the enemies, I was just thinking the player doesn't actually die.

I was actually about two seconds away from posting Braid in one of my first posts in this thread. It's easy to forget that!

The snowboarding thing is unacceptable, however. :P

Also, I'm assuming you've read up on Braid's story and how it relates to the creation of the Atomic Bomb, and you really still don't like the story? I thought it was brilliant...and I love the game. To each their own, I suppose!

I didn't read that much into the story.  >_>

Psychonauts

I vote for Intelligent Cube for the PS1

Oh wait, it doesn't have a story.... Nevermind.... But I thought it was a cool game when I played it.

I think what the OP was trying to say is that he's looking for games with stories that do not involve physical conflict. I could be wrong though. I don't think he was merely looking for ways for loopholes to be found involving deaths in videogames.

One could argue that part of the story of Braid involves fear of death, or any other number of unmentionable horrors that the mentally unstable might inflict upon a pretty lady.

That's the thing about retarded stories that don't make sense, you can say whatever you want about them.  I could say the hero didn't have any cheese for his sandwich so that's why he's venturing out and it would still probably fit in with the story (and don't get me wrong, I love Braid, the story is just...stupid).

Did you finish Braid? It becomes quite clear what the story is about and it makes perfect sense.

Adventures of Lolo
Bubble Bobble
Feel the Magic XY/XX
Luigi's Mansion
Paper Boy
Pilotwings
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Sam & Max
Touch Detective
Wall Street Kid
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
Wheres Waldo?
Zack & Wiki

These are a few in my collection that I think fit your criteria. Some games use the concept of death quite tastefully though so I think you should include games like Ico or Final Fantasy IX.

The latest Prince of Persia. You CAN'T die in the game. Doesn't mean it is easy though.
