naznatips: What about FFV? I thougt that it was a solid game prefered it more then FFIV . I thought that the characters were more alive in FFV and the game was longer. I probably would have liked FFIV more if it came to nes instead seemed like the rushed the game to snes.

I dont get it, you guys like the other FF more than FF VII simply because they are in 2d. Well history says you guys are nintendo supporters.

Fact is FF VII is the best FF.

Fact is FF VII will always stay on a sony system.

Fact is that you guys prefer SNES versions of FF games.

I liked FFV. I just didn't like it as much as IV. I agree with you though that IV felt rushed. The plot of the game moved too fast. I'm really hoping the DS remake fixes that. Supposedly about 3/4 of the original script were left out of the SNES release due to time limitations. A lot of that is supposed to be added back into the DS re-release, so I'm really looking forward to it. Despite the rush though Cecil is one of my favorite FF heroes, and I really did like the game. It wasn't the image of perfection though that FFVI was... there is only one RPG in the world that competes with FFVI for me and that's Chrono Trigger.

Edit: Leo-j, what the hell man?  Did you even read that? FFIX was in 3D too... it was just in the old school style.  None of those are facts.  Those are opinions.  Learn to separate the two.  We were having an intelligent discussion until you started this crap...

Haha no I'm sure you aren't the only one. If you ever want to play FF games, I recommend you start with FFVI.

I agree with naznatips; FFVI is the second best FF IMO. Which makes me wonde, naznatips, you really didn't like FFVII? I agree FFI-VI style was my preference as well but FFVII really pulled me in it's fantastic world, amazing battles, etc. What was it in particular you didn't like about FFVII?

Well, I really shouldn't say don't like. I don't dislike the other FF games, they just don't feel as special to me. They are all okay/good games (except FFXII...), but they don't use the style that charmed me into FF in the first place. My personal complaints about FFVII are:

1) The change in style from fantasy to sci-fi. Environments became much less colorful and much more dreary and dark. The graphics in the game were pretty bad too. I know FFVII's 3D sprites were revolutionary... but you have to admit the 2D ones from FFVI looked a lot better than the Legos you played through FFVII as. I shouldn't have to be watching a cutscene to see any emotion from the characters I'm using.

2) The personalities of the characters. I have never been a fan of the dark gothic "cool" character attitude. I mean look at Cloud who spent most of the game chronically depressed, then look at Zidane or Terra with really bright and colorful personalities.

3) Then you have Sephiroth... I had just finished playing FFVI when I played FFVII for the first time. FFVI btw has my favorite villain of all time: Kefka. His crazy laugh and awesome quotes really just made me love him. After Kefka, Sephiroth felt empty as a villain (despite having badass theme music). Jenova was a better villain than him... I mean, his story was ridiculous. A few Jenova cells made him unbelievably strong, and stronger than Jenova herself... uh what? As a side note I'm actually of the opinion Jenova was stronger and she was controlling him the whole game until she was killed. Not to mention Sephiroth was perfectly sane before discovering he was genetically engineered, then he magically goes "okay, I'll be crazy now." Hopefully Crisis Core will explain that better...

4) FFVII was really badly translated. It was full of typoes and translation errors. It's plot was also pretty shabby, and often misinterpreted. Some people think Sephiroth was the primary villain of the game, but I'm of the opinion that Jenova was. Sephiroth spent the entire game in the Northern Crater (frozen most of the time). Jenova is certainly the one that killed Aeris (while disguised as Seph), and she is the one you chased throughout most of the game. I can link you to an entire page of evidence that shows Jenova is the primary villain if you want.

Those are my main issues. Again, it wasn't a bad game... it just didn't feel like the Final Fantasy that I had grown up with. VI, IX, and IV are my top favorites. I could talk about those 3 games for hours lol.

 1) completely agree; I'm way more into fantasy settings than sci-fi ones.

 2) agree too; Barret was stupid; Tifa was just a showoff (as Kasz21 correctly said) and Cloud was boring.

 3)  I liked Sephiroth way more than any other villain in any game (except the final boss at Kid Ikarus GB). And the cut-scene where he kills (or Jenova doesn't matter) Aeris still makes me feel sorrow.

 4)  Not too much of a backdrop for a game that is.

 5) My guess is that FFVII was my first FF and turn-based RPG ever (I played all previous ones after 2000)  and that's why it holds such a spot in my heart. That explains why I love Gargoyle's Quest (what a game that was)...

I certainly understand having a specil spot in your heart for your first RPG. That's probably why I like FFIV above FFV, despite it's problems. It was my very first RPG, and I loved it.

leo-j: I dont think that nobody said that older FF games is better because they are 2D. Many people dont like changes in games I like the old games and the new games. It can also depend on that FFVI is a really good game. Many people think that FFVI is the best game and Square totally changed FF with FFVII.

What makes FF VII a (relatively) bad game? How about bad graphics? Forgettable music? A story that’s nothing but a poorly structured mishmash of FF VI and Chrono Trigger, except with self doubting emo characters (seriously, delusions are the cause of EVERY problem in that game)? Watered down gameplay (compared to FF VI, they just expanded on the limit breaks and stripped everything else down)? Oh yeah, and those gimmicky minigames sucked.

Yeah, this is my first post, btw. Fun. And nazatips, you know the developers say Sephiroth controlled Jenova, right? (Of course, they also made Advent Children...)

A-> not a fact rather than a personal opinion I happen to share; others have other tastes; respect them.

B-> again, not a fact; If you told a Nintendo fan back in 199+  that S-E (back then Squaresoft) would go Sony exclusive, they'd still be laughing.

C-> most of us yes (not me) .

FACT: You need to lookup the meaning of fact.

Well if FF VII is re- released on the ps3, then expect it to be amazing.

Right.  It's just about the changes for me.  I respect that some people consider that a good change, but for me it wasn't.  IX is what I wanted out of a 3D FF game (although it was too easy).  It's just like with Metroid Prime.  I love the Metroid Prime games, but if you ask Rocketpig on this site he'll tell you it destroyed the series.  Final Fantasy is a great series, and it has many fans.  The problem is that when you have that many fans and that many games, you aren't going to be able to make them all agree lol.

Yes, but I like the game better if Jenova was in control lol.  It makes a lot more sense that Jenova would be able to control Sephiroth through her cells that are in his body rather than a few of her cells allowing him to control her.  Also, there is a lot of evidence through quotes and appearances in the game that suggest Jenova could have been in control.  This is another of those opinions that a lot of FF fans and FFVII fans disagree on.
