Forums - Nintendo - Was it better for Nintendo to be on top this generation?

Well, after 10 years of being defeated by Sony, Nintendo is finally back on top but it is still not getting the kind of support from 3rd party developers like the Playstation and Playstation 2 got. The Wii is always get left out from all the "hardcore" games and always gets the gimped verison. But even though the Gamecube and Xbox were more powerful than the Playstation 2 it still got most of the games.

I see where you are coming from

here is a list of million reasons (well not that many) that you always hear from 3rd parties.

1. Only Nintendo games sell well on their consoles.

2. It makes it hard to port to Wii as the gap is so small. for PS360 we like oyu know consider it as 1 development. The risk is smaller that way for us. Where as for Wii it is one console and risk is Bigger.

3. Nintendo are to harsh on game standards and won't let us publish games (this was true back in the old days of the N64). Now look at the Wii lineup?

4. 3rd party thought Wii would sell like shit and got caught sleeping and put all their resources onto HD, becuase of this investment they comign up with stupid reasons like Wii isn't powerful enough, the hardcore crowd is on the HD consoles. Yes this is true but how can the Wii get a BIG ENOUGH hardcore croud if there are no HARDCORE MAIN STREAM GAMES on it.

I think this will be hard to achieve on WIi that now most hardcore gamers have multiple consoles.

5. Wii is for kids and casual blah blah blah lets make a crappy game and get the profits for HD dev.

6. Waggle controls suck balls. Because you know NO ONE KNOWS THERE IS LIKE A GCN AND CLASSIC CONTROLLER OPTIONS.

there is plenty more things that they have said as excuses but I don't remember at this stage.

The above are the ones that keep resurfacing.

It was better because both of the Nintendo consoles showed a new way of interaction in gaming and took the word gaming to the next level. 360 and PS3 does nothing new other than better graphics and more powerful GPU and CPU. wht else is new? NOTHING! Wii and DS are better in terms of a more intuitive gaming experience.

                                             WII is the FUTURE GAMING!

It's always good to be at top

ppl think the wii is kiddie because sony and MS warned the masses at the end of last gen that there would be something bad(poor b!@tards didn't see it coming). during this time it got to the devs as well, also the the 3rd party dry spell has been going on since GC.

if the wii,ps3,360 were released last gen ps3 things would be the exact same, graphical power means nothing to most, gameplay means everything to all.

Personally, I think it's always good to be on the bottom, or behind....if you know what i mean ;).

I think it's hard for people to realize but the kids are buying Wii's are going to talk about how awesome the Wii is years from now. If anything, this success ensures that Nintendo will have a presence in this industry for years to come.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Yes! Since I have noticed that more and more people are interested in video games (like my family who most of them have never played video games before)

I am an abstract sort of creature, who dislikes any sort of restraint. If you try to pigeonhole me, I'll break the box, and come back for more. I don't have any particular ambitions, I just drift, but I am adept at keeping life going along.

Yes, since it means the 3rd parties have to pay attention to Nintendo again.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

For Nintendo is great.
Fow Wii-only hardcore owners not so great...
If only the Wii would have been just a little more powerful so most of the multiplataform titles were in the three systems...

But in the longterm it is great for whole industry
