Forums - Sony - Sony Files new SKU with FCC

I have no idea why Sony would lower the price AFTER christmas... LOL. They're gonna miss most of the sales for the next 12 months then.

I wish this was true, a 40gb ps3 this december with all the features of the 80gb would do something amazing. The $399.99 price early next year or this year is the only thing that keeps me on with the mentality of ps3 being on top at the end of the generation.

So you are saying if the PS3 does not get a $399.99 price till early next year it cannot win this generation ??? What about Kingdom Hearts and FFIII ???

You say this knowing Disney owns the rights to Kingdom hearts and has already said they're only backing Nintendo right?

Personally I don't care about sku's... I'm perfectly fine with my 60 gb PS3. I think 20 gb sku was a real deal too but as for me WIFI is absolutely essential... Some people don't use it though. Introducing a new sku is an answer for peoples calling. Nothing wrong here.  I think sale of PS3 is pretty solid right now. It's extremely  difficult to sell solid product for such price. Definitely current pace secures support of third party developers. If new sku can help to increase figures a bit I'm with Sony.

First off, i also think there's a good chance KH3 will be on the Wii but...

Disney AND SquareEnix Co-owns the rights to the kingdom hearts IP, Disney owns 0% of the squareenix characters and SE owns 0% of Disney's characters. And being that Kingdom hearts sells more to squareenix fans than disney fans, disney would be pretty stupid to go make a kingdom hearts game alone without squareenix characters (which they once did on mobile phones with Square's approval but ended up failing horribly). Also, i'd like to add that disney never said they were backing nintendo exclusively. Disney only mentioned that they were starting a new interactive gaming studio (that won't be working on Kingdom hearts since that has always been squareenix's job) and that they would focus on making games for the Wii. If anything, disney constantly praises Sony's and the bluray format as the best, which is why disney is exclusive on bluray.

Since it has Wi-Fi, it won't be gimped like the 20GB was. Good stuff. This should sell very well. Maybe it'll drop in price even further for MGS4, etc.

Let's just hope Sony keeps dropping the price every chance they get until it's at least the price of the premium 360. As long as they break even on the manufacturing of these units from here on out, they should be able to sell enough of these suckers so that they'll make enough back on games sales to become profitable.

I'm sure they'll lose a good bit on every 40GB at first, but they'll break even on them soon enough. As long as they don't get complacent and try to make a profit on the actual systems sold, they should manage to price match the 360 eventually and start gaining ground on MS.

Also, a price drop for a territory other than NA would probably help, too. Who knows when they'll actually get around to doing that though...

Err, how does 40 gigs add up to dropping the price 200 bucks?

Also i dont think MS would twiddle their thumbs while this was occuring, you could expect another price drop from MS

$100, not $200.  The 80GB will drop to $499 once the 60s are completely gone, count on that.  It will probably be announced at TGS.

I'm not sure how they'll manage to shave off $100 with just a 40GB HDD.  If wi-fi is still included, the only other thing they could get rid of is the card readers.  Maybe they'll keep Motorstorm packed in with the 80GB?  Then it will essentially be the same situation we have now, just replace the 60GB with a 40GB and shave off $100 across the board.

Also, I'd expect MS to ride the Halo 3 hype train for a while, grabbing as many sales from that as they can before dropping the price another $50 or so.

As for MS further down the road, they'll probably want to keep the actual 360s profitable.  They have yet to make a profit from their Xbox division, and I'm sure they want to keep making money off of each box they sell while they can.  Assuming Sony cuts the price of the ps3 at every opportunity that they have, they could catch up to the price of the 360 over time, assuming MS tries to keep the 360s themselves profitable, thus not dropping the price near as often.

Interesting , this could help :)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

it'll probably be announced at TGS, so we'll know soon anyways. could it possibly be a new sixaxis controller with touch sense integrated? they would need a sku for it to be sold separately, do they have to get FCC testing for bluetooth items? i would think so...
